5 Must Have Travel Toiletry Essentials

5 Must Have Travel Toiletry Essentials

This post, 5 Must Have Travel Toiletry Essentials, is a sponsored post in partnership with Steripod.

It’s no secret I love to travel. Exploring new places with my kids ranks at the top of my to-do list. Earlier this year, I set a goal to travel as much as we can, especially while the kids are young and even if it’s only for a few days. We’ve done a great job sticking to our monthly travel plan and we have some exciting things planned for the second half of the year including a trip to the Jersey Shore for a week.  While I’ve become quite the pro at packing our clothes and only bringing the essentials (which is a big step for the girl who brought eight, yes eight suitcases on a trip a few years ago), one part of packing that I still overlook is packing my toiletry bag. I’m always tweaking the contents and finding new things that I don’t know how I traveled without before, like Steripod

I guess that’s part of the fun when it comes to traveling so much. I’m learning and evolving what we really need and wasting less and less money on the things we don’t really need.

Our first few trips this year, we would run to the travel section of our local store and grab toothbrushes, razors, body wash, shampoo, you know, all the essentials. Every. Single. Month.

Now that adds up for a family of four. I was spending anywhere from $25 -$30 a month on these things which truthfully was a waste of money since wevwere just throwing them out after each trip. Talk about waste.

In an effort to cut down on the waste and waste of money, I revamped my list and started using reusable containers, and found some fun, new products that I won’t travel without now. Here are my 5 must have toiletry essentials that are a must for any trip.

A FUNCTIONAL TOILETRY CASE

I’ve been through my fair share of these. I’ve tried the hanging ones that fall down into compartments, cute and colorful ones, you name it I’ve probably tried it and I’ve found you really can’t go wrong as long as you have plenty of space.  My current one has been used on the past 4 trips and I love it. It’s big enough to hold the essentials for all four of us, it’s two sided so I can separate the kids stuff from ours but it’s still small enought to not take up too much extra space.

RESUABLE CONTAINERS

I was wasting so much money buying travel sized shampoos, condition and body wash each month it was ridiculous. 90% of the time there wasn’t enough left in the bottle to bring it home so we just threw it away. Plus I have long, thick hair and 90% of the time the hotel toiletries don’t do much for my hair so I have to bring my own. Since we’re all used to our brand I don’t have to worry about the kids and their sensitive skin while away. Once I bought empty containers and just starting re-filling them at home, it was so. much. easier.

SUNSCREEN

We bring sunscreen on every trip with us. Whether it’s to the beach in the summer or the Poconos in the winter. If we’re going to be outside then we need sunscreen. I’m very protective when we’re out in the sun so it’s a must for us.

TRAVEL DISINFECTANT

This may be overkill but I always travel with a small bottle and pack of wipes to give the room and things we’ll touch like light switches, door knobs, and things like the tv remote.  There have been 2 times that I haven’t – one was a few years ago and we caught the norovirus at Disney World and earlier this year when we caught the flu. It was the sickest I’ve ever been in my life and I will never leave home without these two things ever again!

STERIPOD

Another thing we would waste on trips is our toothbrushes. We’d use them on each trip and toss them. A total waste of money and for the environment. But I’m really funny with things that go in my mouth. I don’t want them touching anything else – even other toothbrushes, and those long travel ones are nearly impossible to clean so I was wasting money on those.

Once I was introduced to Steripod, I immediately wondered where this has been all my life.

Steripod offers toothbrush protectors, razor protectors and tongue cleaners. Let’s face it, bathrooms are pretty gross. I know how much effort I put into cleaning my bathroom to keep it spotless but I’m not sure that hotels put in the effort I do. I don’t want to lay my toothbrushes down on a counter right by essentially, a public toilet. Every time that thing flushes, tiny little particles get released in the air. Those particles have to land somewhere.

So I want to make sure I’m protecting the things that will go into my mouth!

The experts behind Steripod invented a new kind of toothbrush protector, one that is infused with Thymol, an antiseptic found in many mouthwashes. The pods use active vapors to clean and refresh your toothbrush bristles all while keeping it protected from any outside contaminants.

Steripod bathroom essentials are guaranteed to keep you fresh and clean for 90 days. But just like your toothbrush, they need to be swapped out for a new one once in a while. It’s recommended that you replace your Steripod products every three months. You can find Steripod products at Amazon and GetSteripod.com, and at retailers nationwide, including Bed, Bath & Beyond, CVS, Target, Walgreens, Walmart and more.

I assigned each of us a color making it easy to know which toothbrush belonged to who. No more mixing up toothbrushes!

I even use them at home to keep our toothbrushes protected and clean.

I always lose the blade protector for my razor (I suspect SOMEONE tosses it) and then don't know what to do when we travel, so I'm looking forward to the razor protector!
