Carrying a diaper bag around after years of not has taken a bit of getting used to again. When my youngest was first born, I actually carried my purse and my diaper bag out wherever we went. Let’s just say that got old real quick. It was just too much to be responsible for. Combine that with my “mommy brain” that’s been sticking around for the last two years, I was afraid I was going to lose something. So I started stuffing my things into different pouches in the diaper bag. That was a terrible choice because I had stuff all over and ended up never finding anything when I needed it. So to help me on my quest to become more organized, I created this mommy pouch to hold all my essentials in one spot in the diaper bag.
Now I can just grab one bag, instead of digging through countless pockets and compartments trying to find my license, cards or even just a piece of gum. It’s happened more times than I can count but I can happily say that so far this is working out great. I only wish I did it sooner.
Want to make your own? Great! I’m going to show you exactly what you need and how easy it is to do! First you need to decide what you want to go in your bag so you can get a bag big enough to hold your things but small enough to fit in your diaper bag (or whatever bag you’re trying to organize). Then you’ll need some vinyl letters or your vinyl cutting machine if you have one. If you don’t, don’t worry you can still make this and I’ll show you how.
For me, I needed something to hold my wallet, a few makeup essentials, gum, hand sanitizer, my phone and some other odds and ends. I found this makeup bag to be perfect. It’s big enough to hold all of my things with room left over and still fit in my diaper bag.
I filled the smaller bag with my makeup and girly products
Then I filled it up with my wallet, phone, hand sanitizer and a pack of gum. I always keep a back of gum with me and was thrilled to find these new Extra® 35-stick packs.
Not only do I get more gum (so I run out less) but I have plenty to share with my mommy friends when we’re having playdates or out as a group. I hate pulling out my pack of gum only to find I only have one piece left and none to share with friends.
It’s so easy to find these new packs in the checkout line at Walmart. I picked up two, one for me and on to share with my husband. They’re available in Extra® Gum Spearmint and Extra® Gum Polar Ice®.
Back to the bag, I wanted to personalize it a bit so I used some vinyl letters I found on the scrapbooking aisle. They had a clear background and dressed up the bag perfectly. If you have a vinyl cutting machine at home, you can print these out at home.
You can even create your bag to say anything you want. I made mine to say “hello beautiful”. After all, us moms need a little reminder that we’re all beautiful even when we’re a frazzled mess!
I love how the bag turned out. I feel like my diaper bag is so much more organized now and I can easily find my things in an instant.
You can even re-use the plastic container that the gum comes in. It’s great for holding little odds and ends in your bag. I used one of mine to hold hair ties for me and the baby now that her hair is long enough to pull into pony tails. I always seem to loose these and can never have enough in my bag. So I filled the container with some extras to drop in the bag.
