Summer is here and in full swing. I can’t believe it’s already the middle (almost) of July. I feel like it was just February and we were all dreaming of the warmer weather. There’s no doubt that it’s here and if you’re anything like my family, these gorgeous days of summer involve trips to the beach, theme parks, fishing at our local lakes and just about anything else that has us outside creating memories. This weekend we’re headed out to a local theme park with some family and friends for a day of fun. With a 2 hour drive ahead of us, one thing I won’t be leaving home with is a cooler full of drinks for the ride up.
When we head out on road trips, I always pack a large cooler in the trunk but that doesn’t help me when we’re on the highway and I’m thirsty and I always get thirsty on long car trips. Sure we could pull over and grab something from the trunk but it’s just easier to pack a smaller cooler to keep where I can reach it. Considering I pack the kids their own cooler for the ride, it only makes sense that I keep another handy for my husband and I.
This way everyone is happy. I don’t have to hear “I’m hungry” or “I’m thirsty” every few minutes and my husband (usually the driver) doesn’t have to hear me ask “how much longer before I can get a drink”. I’ve been known to do that on a trip or two. I went with a hard sided cooler since I’m also traveling with kids and messes can happen. With a hard sided cooler, I can just wipe it down if things get messy.
I wanted to dress it up a bit and I took some inspiration from the Share a Coke and a Song campaign.
When I picked up a case of Coca-Cola from Sam’s Club the cans had all these great song lyrics printed on them and I knew they’d be the perfect way to dress up my cooler. It was hard to narrow it down to which lyrics I wanted to print on my cooler. So many of the lyrics were perfect for this project and it was hard to pick one.
I used my Silhouette to design some of the lyrics printed on the cans. I went with “I’m on top of the world” since I love traveling and spending time with my family. We have so much fun on our little road trips that I really do feel on top of the world when I’m with them. So it was a fitting saying for my project. Once I had my font picked out I typed in the lyrics I wanted in the Silhouette Design Studio.
Then I clicked the “trace” icon and highlighted a box around my entire design.
Next, under “apply trace method”, I clicked trace.
Once that was done, I dragged my original image away and was left with just the outline of my design.
I printed the design out and removed the excess vinyl. Then I weeded the design to get out the extra pieces.
When I was ready to apply it, I added a layer of transfer paper and applied my design. Keep a card handy so you can use it to help apply the design.
I just love how it turned out. I can use it for road trips, picnics, sporting events and so much more. It was so easy to make I can’t wait to fill it up with my Coca-Cola cans and use it this weekend.
