The moment I opened my email and saw the invite from Disney inviting me to the Christopher Robin red carpet premiere, ideas started churning in my head. What was I going to wear? What DIY projects can I whip up? What recipes can I make to keep the excitement and fun going. I immediately knew I wanted a yellow dress and I needed a purse that was not only small but cute. I couldn’t find any Winnie the Pooh themed purses for sale that I liked when it dawned on me, why not make a Winnie the Pooh hunny pot purse. I was already making a hunny pot dress for my daughter to wear when I take her to see the movie so why not just make my purse. So that’s exactly what I did. I use my Cricut to make shirts and dresses and things around the house all the time but I’ve never used it to make a purse before. Honestly, how hard could it be? Surprisingly it was pretty easy! With a little trial and error of course.

Once I found the perfect purse, I started crafting.

In the end I just love how it came out and was so disappointed I couldn’t wear it on the red carpet. In fact, missing this trip is something I’m still struggling with (as some of you might know, I had a family emergency that prevented me from going).

it didn’t go to waste though. My daughter had her eye on it from the minute I made it. I promised her it was hers as soon as I got home from my trip. When I didn’t go, she called dips lol!

Truthfully it looks adorable on her and I’m so happy she loves it.

Although it would have looked super cute with my Pooh themed outfit on the red carpet!

If you’re looking for the perfect accessory when you head out to see Disney’s Christopher Robin this weekend, or just have a little Winnie the Pooh fan at home, this DIY Winnie the Pooh Hunny Pot purse is craft for you.

Even if you’re not the  craftiest person out there, this is a pretty simple tutorial but you’ll need a few things before you get started:

  • Gold glitter HTV (heat transfer vinyl)
  • black HTV (heat transfer vinyl)
  • Iron
  • Cricut or other vinyl cutting machine
  • brown purse

I initially was going to use a deep yellow color but since I was wearing a yellow dress and the colors were off, I went with the gold glitter for a bit of sparkle. You can see in the pictures the yellow and it looked cute too so if you prefer that color go ahead and use it.

This was the original color I was going to use

I cut the dripping honey design free hand so you don’t need a machine to do this part. Just trace your design in pencil and cut it out.

If you have a steady hand you could probably cut the letter free hand too but I don’t so I turned to my trusty Cricut to do this part for me.

I created the logo in PicMonkey so I could reverse the one “n” in hunny. To do this, you’ll go to PicMonkey.com, click on the design tab and you’ll be brought to a white screen.

Next, you’ll click the text editor on the left side. I added three text boxes, one for HU, one for NY and one for the N I flipped so it would be backwards. Then I lined them all up and saved the image.

I imported it into my Cricut design program and set the sizes to fit my purse. (This will be different depending on the size of purse you use.)

Once it was cut, it was time to iron on the pieces. I need to invest in a heat press but I’m still old fashioned and use my iron for this part of the job.

If you’re using an iron, be careful with the temperature setting. I initially set the iron too hot and it burned right through the test area I was working on. So I turned the heat down halfway to about medium and that worked well.

I lined up the pieces, layered a thin piece of cotton over top to prevent burning and ironed it on. You’ll want to press down with a lot of pressure for about 10 seconds. if the vinyl hasn’t adhered to the bag, repeat the process until it has.

Slowly peel off the top layer of the HTV which should already be peeling at this point.
