If there’s one thing I learned about family road trips over the years is the importance of being prepared – for everyone and everything. One thing left at home or one thing not planned for can truly make or break a trip. So before we head out on any road trip, we make a list and will it with things we want to do, where we want to eat, what we’re going to wear, entertainment for the ride there and what extras are we bringing. That list will get tweaked a time or two before we actually leave, but I’ve found it helps us narrow down exactly what we need and what we don’t.
Traveling with two kids almost ten years apart means I need to plan different activities and things to keep them busy during the car ride there. A coloring book may work great for my toddler but my tween is a little past the coloring stage. So making sure everyone’s needs are met before we even leave is my number one priority.
To keep my oldest busy, I’ve turned to audiobooks for longer road trips. He won’t leave home without is his tablet, so having his favorite audiobook loaded and ready to go keeps him busy and entertained. This couldn’t be any easier thanks to Audible. Your favorite audiobooks can easily be accessed on your iPhone, iPod, Android device, Fire table, or your other MP3 player. Now he can listen to his favorite books (which he prefers to do anyway) on his tablet. He becomes so engrossed in the story, that we arrive before he’s done and he’s actually disappointed. For a low monthly fee, we can access all of Audible’s audiobook library to keep us all entertained on our journeys.

ROAD TRIP TRADITIONS
We have a little tradition for all of our road trips that include a stop at IHOP. We either kick off our road trips with a visit to our local IHOP or if there is an IHOP location where we’re going, we make it a point to stop for breakfast at least once. We started this tradition shortly after our first road trip and it just kind of stuck. Now we look forward to finding a new IHOP location to visit or we start our trip at our local store. For the last 59 years, IHOP has been serving guests the best in breakfast all day, every day.
I can’t think of a better way to start the day than with IHOP’s world- famous Original Buttermilk Pancakes. They’re always fluffy, buttery and delicious, right off the griddle. I like to pair mine with bacon for a delicious breakfast whenever we crave it.
ROADSIDE EMERGENCY KIT
An emergency can happen at any time and I’d rather be prepared than unprepared for the unexpected. I keep a small tote in the car that contains a first aid kit, vehicle emergency kit and my newest addition, T-Rex® Tape.
The super-durable, extra-thick, sun-resistant materials in T-Rex® Tape to work longer and stronger than other utility tapes, in all kinds of weather making it a must have in my book.
SNACKS FOR THE ROAD
I pack the kids a little cooler with drinks and some of their favorite snacks for the road that they keep in the back seat. My husband and I get hungry on the road too, so I keep another stash of snacks up from for us to munch on during the trip. My husband likes jerky snacks so keeping a bag or two of Chops Snacks Jerky.

Packing a few small games or toys in a bag that are new or ones the kids haven’t seen in awhile is a great way to avoid any road trip melt downs. When the kids start to get antsy or bored and the tablet or movie just isn’t cutting it anymore, I like to grab something from my secret stash. Cube-tastic! is one of those kinds of toys.
