Have you ever thought about what it would be like to live on Mars? I really haven’t but my husband and son have. They’re the space fanatics in our house. Put on a show involving planets or anything to do with space and those two will binge watch it whenever they can. They love it. So when I had a chance to have a MARS watchathon, I knew those two would love it and I was right.
It’s really easy to get caught up in the series and find yourself wanting more. Even me and I typically don’t sit through the documentaries the two of them can watch. I found it interesting and I can’t wait to watch more. It’s opened the door for great discussions at home about what future space travel might look like and what that means for us.
“MARS follows a crew of courageous international astronauts on its exhilarating maiden voyage to Mars and quest to colonize the fourth planet from the sun. In a unique blend of scripted drama intermixed with documentary sequences and feature-film-caliber visual effects, the series presents what the greatest minds in space exploration are doing to make traveling to Mars a reality, featuring Big Thinkers like Elon Musk, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Stephen Petranek. Experience MARS in breathtaking high-definition. The must-own National Geographic sci-fi docudrama is jam packed with two hours of extras, including prequel BEFORE MARS, Living on Mars, Cast & Crew Interviews and more.”
Did you know? Because of its orbital speed, one year on #Mars is equal to nearly two years on Earth
Here’s a sneak peek of MARS:

- BEFORE MARS – A Prequel

- Cast & Crew Interviews
The book has my reluctant reader hooked on learning as much as he can about the Red planet and I highly recommend the book. I can’t wait to incorporate it into some of our homeschool sessions.
WHAT WOULD YOU PACK FOR A VISIT TO MARS?
What if we were traveling to Mars? I’m an over-packer so I’d probably bring a ton of stuff. Most of which I wouldn’t need, but a girl’s gotta be prepared, right? What would you pack for a trip to Mars?
Some of my must haves would be:
- My camera
- My cell phone (it will work right???!)
- Books for the journey
- Snacks (hello freeze dried ice cream)
- Toys for the kids
- Comfy shoes because I’m sure there will be a ton of walking
- Emergency kit
What would you or your kids bring? Here’s a fun checklist to print out so you can make your own MARS packing list! Share your #MARSday packing list with the hashtag and you could win a copy of the DVD!
