Every year the weekend before Christmas, I throw a cookie baking party. We get all the the kids together and they bake their little hearts out. It’s always on Sunday so the guys can watch football, the girls can hang out and catch up on any last minute Christmas planning we need to do and the kids spend time in the kitchen making their masterpieces. This year I changed things up a bit and we all made plans to go out to dinner afterwards. So instead of making a dinner, I had everyone over for brunch instead. Since I was feeling a little crafty, we all made cute little photo ornaments to hang on the tree. Since it’s so close the holidays and I’m already over-stressed with a to-do list a mile long, I wanted to keep this event simple and as stress free as possible.
I settled on brunch, since I figured that would be the easiest to plan. I was right and these three tips helped me plan a fun little party without all the stress.
SERVE EASY FOOD – I love entertaining and while sometimes I don’t mind spending lots of time in the kitchen, during the holidays I want to be right in the middle of all the fun, creating memories with my family and friends. Serving easy to make foods are a must. Since we went with a brunch theme, I thought a waffle bar would be perfect. They were easy to make ahead of time (and easy to make more of if we ran out). I set out different toppings like whipped cream, mini chocolate chips and syrup so everyone could pick what they liked. Other toppings could include fresh fruit, mini marshmallows whatever your heart desires and you think your guests will love. Just keep it simple so it doesn’t stress you out.
SET UP A FOOD & DRINK BUFFET – When it comes to serving, buffet style is the way to go. Setting everything out for your guests to help themselves takes some of the work off of you as the hostess and lets you mingle with the guests without waiting on everyone. Set out the food and purchase individual drinks for guests to help themselves. Not only do they look pretty but it’s easy for everyone to help themselves to whatever they want. You could also set out pitchers of your favorite drinks with plenty of cups for everyone. I love this glass bottles of Coca-Cola and think they make a pretty addition to any party table.
GET CREATIVE – While it’s fun to sit around and chat (and sometimes thats just what we need) other times it’s fun to get a little crafty. Since it’s the holidays I wanted my guests to go home with something fun. Since the kids were busy in the kitchen, it was the perfect time for us to get a little crafty. Since we had so many wonderful memories over the last year, I thought creating personalized ornaments with some of our favorite photos would be a great reminder of all the fun. I had everyone sent me a special photos from the last year when they rsvp’d. That way I could have them printed out when they arrived.
I bought a a variety of ornaments and some fillers like glitter, fake snow and even red crinkly paper shreds. Everyone could pick an ornament, fill it with some sparkle and then add in their favorite photos.
The best part was how easy they are to make. We simply traced the shape of the ornament onto the photo and cut it out.
Using a little glue, we glued the photo into the ornament and filled it with a little glitter and fake snow so when we shake it, it looks like a little snow globe.
All that was left was to tie a little ribbon on and hang it on the tree.
I made sure to pick up plenty of our favorite drinks, like this glass bottles of Coca-Cola for the holidays at ACME. Right now they have a great deal that’s too good not to share.
When you buy four (4) participating Coca-Cola products you’ll get a Catalina print-out at the register with a unique pin code to redeem online for $20 off at Shutterfly.com. That will come in handy when you want to print out all your photo memories from your holiday parties this year.
