One of my favorite things about homeschooling is our ability to cater lessons to different things and really turn everyday things into fun lessons. Anytime I can, I try to incorporate a lesson into everyday activities. One of the units we are studying or refreshing right now is money. Worksheets are great but I love being able to find fun projects for hands on learning. So when I had a chance to check out a 3D Coin Art™ puzzle, I knew it would be perfect to include in our lessons. It’s a fun way to work on fine motor skills, counting and so much more.
3D Coin Art™ is a puzzle and a bank in one. Made by New York City based NSI International Inc., it’s an innovative way to create amazing 3D works of art all from coins. Our coin art was the United States Flag. Almost everything you need to create and display your coin art creation is in the box. All you need to supply is the money. Twenty-five dollars worth of coins to be exact.
My son couldn’t wait to start on his 3d Coin Art. We started it during one of our daily lessons and finished it the next day. We grabbed all the coins we had in the house and sorted them out. I had him count as he went along and he kept a tally so he could add it up as he went along.
We would have finished sooner but we ran out of coins. So his next step was to figure out how many more we needed. He was so busy having fun he didn’t realize he was actually doing math work.
Projects like thiS that allow him to get hands on with his work are one of the things I like most. Even if you’re not a homeschooler, this is a great way to practice fine motor skills, addition, subtraction and so much more.
