This school year is going to be a new and adventurous one for us. This is my first year homeschooling my soon to be fifth grader. Homeschooling is something I’ve been thinking about for a while now and finally decided that now is the right time. We’re both pretty excited for our year to begin and have been busy picking up the things we need for a successful year. We’ve spent the last week out shopping for back-to-school supplies just like we do every other year. We picked up a new bookbag and lunch box, all our new supplies (just in triplicate this time) and we most of his back-to-school wardrobe. It’s a pretty big change so I’m trying to keep some of the same traditions we’ve had for the last five years, just amended alittle for our new journey.
Our last stop on our little shopping weekend was a visit to Barnes and Noble. I wanted him to pick out some new books for the school year that he could read during reading time. We spent a good hour in the store looking at the displays of books and exploring what we thought we’d start the year off reading.
Even with all of today’s technology, I just love a beautiful book and I’m not afraid to admit, I fell in LOVE with these gorgeous classics. We picked pup three of them to add to our library and can’t wait to go back for more. They are even more beautiful in person.
He found so many great books and had a hard time choosing. We worked out a little deal that we’d make a visit to Barnes and Noble at least once a month as part of our Field Trip Fridays.
I even found an entire section of workbooks to help encourage him this year. I picked up this one for extra practice and to supplement our curriculum. I had no idea they even had a section like this. Whether you’re homeschooling, heading to traditional school or have kids in college you can find everything from supplies to the books you’ll need at Barnes and Noble.
While I’m sad to see the summer come to an end, I’m excited for the school year to begin. No matter what your school setting looks like, one thing that is the same for everyone is the cost of books and supplies. Those costs only seem to get higher every year, even with all my bargain sale shopping. Now there’s a way to earn some money back on all these purchases.
The Barnes & Noble MasterCard is the best credit card for parents, teachers, homeschoolers, college kids or just good old fashioned bookworms who are purchasing books, textbooks and supplies for back to school and all year long. Cardholders receive a $25 gift card after their first purchase. Then every 2,500 points earns another $25 gift card. The card also has no annual fee.
You’ll earn 5% back when you purchase any of the following from a Barnes & Noble store, BN.com and at campus Barnes & Noble bookstores:
- NOOKS and NOOK Books
