The Best Haunted Houses in NJ for 2026: The Scariest New Jersey Haunts

Looking for the best haunted houses in NJ for 2026? You’ve come to the right place! This guide has everything you need to know about the scariest haunts in the Garden State!

scary halloween haunt with red light

Halloween is one of my favorite times of year, and here in New Jersey, we definitely know how to do spooky season right.

From haunted houses hidden inside creepy old buildings to haunted hayrides through dark farms, corn mazes filled with monsters and terrifying walks through the woods, there are some seriously scary Halloween attractions throughout the Garden State.

And I mean throughout the state.

You don’t have to drive to Philadelphia or New York City to find an amazing haunted attraction. Some of the best Halloween experiences are right here in New Jersey.

Whether you’re looking for something terrifying for a night out with friends, a haunted hayride for the whole family or somewhere to take teens who insist that nothing scares them, I’ve rounded up some of the best haunted houses in New Jersey to visit in 2026.

Just don’t blame me if you sleep with the lights on afterward.

Best Haunted Houses in North Jersey

1. Brighton Asylum — Passaic, NJ

📍 Passaic, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Indoor haunted houses and Halloween entertainment
😱 Scare Level: 5/5
📅 2026 Season: Select dates September 25 – November 1

If you’re making a list of the scariest haunted houses in New Jersey, Brighton Asylum has to be near the top.

This massive North Jersey Halloween destination has become one of the best-known haunted attractions in the state.

For 2026, Brighton Asylum offers three main haunted houses: Brighton Asylum, The Bleeding Grounds and SubCULTure.

But you can make an entire night out of your visit. There are additional experiences, escape rooms, live entertainment, photo opportunities, games and a Monster Midway.

This is definitely one I’d pick if you’re looking for more than a quick haunted-house walkthrough.

Why Go: It’s one of New Jersey’s biggest and most elaborate Halloween attractions.

Best For: Teens, adults and serious haunted-house fans.

2. 13th Hour Haunted House — Wharton, NJ

📍 Wharton, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Indoor haunted attractions
😱 Scare Level: 5/5

Another must for North Jersey is 13th Hour Haunted House in Wharton.

This is the kind of attraction I’d choose when the weather isn’t cooperating because the main attractions are indoors and the waiting areas are covered.

13th Hour is known for elaborate sets, actors and immersive horror experiences. There are also escape rooms if you want to make a whole evening out of your visit.

If you’re someone who loves the theatrical side of haunted houses — where it feels like you’ve walked directly into a horror movie — put this one on your list.

Why Go: It’s an immersive indoor experience, so a rainy October night doesn’t necessarily ruin your plans.

Best For: Teens, adults and groups of friends.

3. Haunted Red Mill — Clinton, NJ

📍 Clinton, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Historic Halloween attraction
😱 Scare Level: 4/5

A haunted attraction inside one of New Jersey’s most recognizable historic landmarks?

YES.

The Red Mill Museum Village in Clinton transforms for its annual Haunted Red Mill experience each fall.

The setting alone makes this one interesting. Instead of walking into a warehouse that was built to be a haunted house, you’re visiting a historic New Jersey property that already has plenty of atmosphere before anyone even starts trying to scare you.

This is also a great excuse to spend the day exploring Clinton before heading to the haunt once the sun goes down.

Why Go: You get a uniquely New Jersey historic setting along with the Halloween experience.

Make a Day of It: Explore downtown Clinton before your evening visit.

4. Field of Terror — East Windsor, NJ

📍 East Windsor, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Haunted farm, hayride, corn maze and walk-through attractions
😱 Scare Level: 5/5

If you want a LOT of Halloween in one night, Field of Terror should be high on your list.

Located on a farm in East Windsor, this isn’t just one haunted house. It’s an entire haunted attraction complex.

Experiences have included the Kornfield of Karnage, Haunted Hayride to Terror Town, Timmery Manor, The Karnival and Creepy Carnival Paintball Ride.

This is exactly the kind of haunt I love for a fall night because you’re outside on a farm, it’s dark, you’re surrounded by cornfields and you never quite know what’s waiting around the corner.

Why Go: Multiple attractions mean you can spend an entire evening here.

Best For: Groups and families with older kids and teens who want more than one haunt.

5. Scare Farm at Norz Hill Farm — Hillsborough, NJ

📍 Hillsborough, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Haunted farm and outdoor attractions
😱 Scare Level: 5/5

Norz Hill Farm might look perfectly innocent during the day.

At night? Not so much.

Scare Farm transforms the Hillsborough farm into a completely different experience after dark.

Past attractions have included Madderbaby Lane, Atrum Manor, Slayride and Chaotica, giving visitors several different kinds of scares in one night.

I love haunted farms because there’s just something extra creepy about walking around outside in the dark in October.

Why Go: Several different experiences instead of one quick haunted-house walkthrough.

Best For: Teens and adults who like outdoor haunts.

6. Farm of Horrors at Schaefer Farms — Flemington, NJ

📍 Flemington, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Haunted hayride, trails, maze and walk-through haunt
😱 Scare Level: 5/5

Another farm that completely changes after dark is Schaefer Farms in Flemington.

Farm of Horrors takes place across a huge farm property and combines several different experiences into one continuous adventure.

You’ll start with a Hayride of Horror before heading through creepy trails and a graveyard. Then there’s the MassAcre Maize and Carnevil of Chaos.

If clowns AND cornfields scare you, congratulations — you’ve found your nightmare.

Why Go: It’s a long, multi-part experience that combines several different styles of haunted attractions.

Wear: Comfortable closed-toe shoes. You’re on a farm and you’ll be doing plenty of walking.

7. Oasis Island of Terror — Robbinsville, NJ

📍 Robbinsville, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Outdoor haunted trails
😱 Scare Level: 5/5

If walking through the woods in complete darkness sounds like a good time to you, head to Oasis Island of Terror in Robbinsville.

This one is different from a traditional haunted house because the experience takes you outdoors and through the woods.

That means there’s nowhere to hide behind the person in front of you.

The property has featured the lengthy Woods Have Eyes haunted trail along with its Blackout experience.

Why Go: The wooded setting makes it feel completely different from an indoor haunted house.

Best For: Older teens and adults who want an outdoor scare.

8. House of Horrors New Jersey — East Brunswick, NJ

📍 East Brunswick, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Haunted house and hayride
😱 Scare Level: 4/5

For another Central Jersey option, check out House of Horrors New Jersey in East Brunswick.

This community haunt combines a haunted house experience with a hayride and has the added bonus of supporting Middlesex County 4-H.

I love including attractions like this because not every great Halloween night has to come from a massive commercial scream park.

Why Go: Halloween fun while supporting a local organization.

Haunted Houses at the Jersey Shore

9. Nightmare at Gravity Hill — Jackson, NJ

📍 Jackson, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Outdoor haunted walking trail
😱 Scare Level: 5/5
📅 2026 Season: Select nights September 11 – October 31

This isn’t a hayride.

You’re walking.

Through the dark.

Good luck. 😂

Nightmare at Gravity Hill takes you through approximately five acres with more than a dozen creepy scenes along the way.

The entire walking experience lasts around 35 minutes, so this isn’t one of those haunted houses where you wait an hour and you’re outside five minutes later.

You’ll encounter everything from a ghost town and graveyard to creepy fields filled with creatures you’d probably rather not meet.

Guests under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Why Go: A substantial outdoor walking experience rather than a short indoor haunt.

Tip: Wear comfortable shoes. You’ll be walking outdoors for quite a while.

10. Brookdale Haunted Theater — Lincroft, NJ

📍 Lincroft, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Indoor immersive haunted theater
😱 Scare Level: 4/5
📅 2026 Dates: October 9–11, 16–18, 23–25, 29 & 30

Don’t let the word “theater” fool you.

You aren’t sitting down and watching a Halloween show.

Brookdale’s Performing Arts Center is transformed into a walk-through haunted attraction created and operated by current and former students.

Guests make their way through the building as the theater becomes a creepy labyrinth filled with sets, characters and plenty of surprises.

One thing I REALLY like about this attraction for families is its Lights On, Scares Off experience.

On select afternoons, you can walk through the attraction with the lights on, without actors, loud noises or jump scares. That’s such a great idea for younger kids or anyone who loves Halloween but doesn’t necessarily love being terrified.

Why Go: One of the most unique indoor Halloween attractions at the Jersey Shore.

Great for Younger Kids: Look for the special Lights On, Scares Off dates.

11. The Conover Killings — Wall Township, NJ

📍 Wall Township, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Haunted wooded trail
😱 Scare Level: 5/5

If you’re looking for another outdoor haunt near the Jersey Shore, check out The Conover Killings.

Instead of traditional rooms and hallways, you’re heading into the woods for an immersive haunted-trail experience.

And let’s face it: the woods are creepy enough at night WITHOUT anyone intentionally hiding in them waiting to scare you.

Why Go: It’s a completely different experience from a traditional indoor haunted house.

Best For: Older teens and adults who like immersive outdoor scares.

12. C. Casola Farms Haunted Attractions — Marlboro, NJ

📍 Marlboro, New Jersey

C. Casola Farms gives you several ways to get scared in one location.

The farm’s Halloween attractions have included the Haunted Hayride of Terror, 3D Haunted Barn, Living Maze and Marlboro Zombie Breakout, an interactive zombie paintball experience.

This is another great pick if your group can’t agree on one type of haunted attraction because you can experience several different styles in the same place.

Why Go: Haunted hayrides + mazes + zombie paintball make for a fun Halloween night.

Best Haunted Houses in South Jersey

13. Night of Terror at Creamy Acres Farm — Mullica Hill, NJ

📍 Mullica Hill, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Scream park and haunted farm
😱 Scare Level: 5/5
📅 2026 Season: Select dates October 2–31

South Jersey has some fantastic haunted attractions, and Night of Terror at Creamy Acres Farm is easily one of the biggest.

Once the sun goes down, the normally family-friendly farm transforms into a massive Halloween destination.

Instead of just one haunted house, you’ll find multiple haunted experiences throughout the property.

There’s also a Haunted Paintball Hayride, which puts a fun interactive spin on the traditional haunted-hayride experience.

If you’re coming from Philadelphia, this is also one of the easiest big New Jersey haunts to reach.

Why Go: It’s a full Halloween destination rather than a single haunted house.

Best For: Teens, adults and groups looking to spend an entire evening getting scared.

14. HallowSpire — Southampton, NJ

📍 Southampton, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Haunted trail, haunted corn maze and circus haunt
😱 Scare Level: 4/5
📅 2026 Season: September 25 – November 1

One of the South Jersey attractions I’m especially excited to see grow is HallowSpire.

HallowSpire has expanded into a much larger Southampton farm location and now offers three haunted attractions.

Take on the Jersey Devil Terror Trail, get lost inside the 13th Acre Haunted Corn Maze and then see if you’re brave enough for Funland Forgotten Circus.

And I LOVE that they’re leaning into the Jersey Devil.

If we’re going to have a haunted attraction in New Jersey, we might as well embrace our state’s most famous monster.

There’s also a pumpkin patch and fall midway, so you can mix a little traditional fall fun in with all the screaming.

Why Go: The Jersey Devil theme makes this one feel distinctly New Jersey.

New for 2026: The farm has expanded its pumpkin patch for the season.

15. Bloodshed Farms Fear Fest — Columbus, NJ – UPDATE CLOSED FOR 2026 THE HAUNTING ON HIGH STREET IS TAKING IT’S PLACE FOR 2026

THE HAUNT HAS MOVED TO MOUNT HOLLY AT THE BURLINGTON COUNTY PRISON MUSEUM

📍 Mount Holly, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Walk thru haunted house
😱 Scare Level: 4/5

Sadly everyone’s favorite drive-thru Halloween event, Bloodshed Farms Fear Fest in Columbus, couldn’t get the permits needed to open for 2026 so they will not be opening this year. They promise to be back and better than ever for 2027. BUT in its place’s we’re getting THE HAUNTING ON HIGH STREET at the Historic Burlington County Prison Museum!

The scare actors are moving just a few minutes down the road and this event WILL SELL OUT!  FOR ONLY 3 WEEKEND IN OCTOBER, prepare to be scared walking through all 3 floors of the Burlington County Prison Museum.

There are 2 events, the prison walk and then the afterparty in the courtyard!

It’s another great South Jersey choice if you don’t want to drive all the way north for one of the state’s larger haunts.

Why Go: Multiple experiences in one location and a convenient option for South Jersey families.

More New Jersey Haunted Attractions Worth Checking Out

16. Six Flags Great Adventure Fright Fest — Jackson, NJ

📍 Jackson, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Theme park Halloween event
😱 Scare Level: Depends on where you go!

Okay, technically this isn’t a standalone haunted house.

But I couldn’t write a guide to the best Halloween attractions in New Jersey without mentioning Fright Fest at Six Flags Great Adventure.

There’s something about riding roller coasters in the dark and then walking straight into Halloween scares that makes theme-park Halloween events so much fun.

Expect Halloween entertainment, scare zones and other spooky experiences throughout the park during the season.

Why Go: Roller coasters AND Halloween.

Best For: Families with teens who want more than just haunted houses.

17. Conklin Farm Haunted Hayrides — Montville, NJ

📍 Montville, New Jersey
🎃 Type: Haunted hayride
😱 Scare Level: 3/5

If a classic haunted hayride is more your speed, add Conklin Farm Haunted Hayrides to your North Jersey list.

Haunted hayrides are one of my favorite ways to celebrate Halloween because they still give you that traditional fall-farm experience — just with a few more monsters hiding in the woods.

Why Go: A classic Halloween hayride experience in North Jersey.

📍 Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey

Community haunts can be such a fun alternative to the huge professional attractions, especially if you’re looking to add another Halloween stop while exploring North Jersey.

Why Go: A smaller local option to round out a North Jersey Halloween weekend.

What Is the Scariest Haunted House in New Jersey?

That’s going to depend on what actually scares you.

If you want a huge, theatrical indoor haunted house, I’d start with Brighton Asylum or 13th Hour.

If being stranded outside in a cornfield or dark woods sounds terrifying, look at Field of Terror, Scare Farm, Farm of Horrors, Oasis Island of Terror or Nightmare at Gravity Hill.

In South Jersey, Night of Terror at Creamy Acres is one of the biggest Halloween destinations, while HallowSpire is especially fun if you want something with a uniquely New Jersey feel.

Personally, I think walking through dark woods might be worse than any haunted house. At least inside I can pretend there’s an exit nearby. 😂

Best Haunted Houses in NJ for Teens

If you’re planning a Halloween night with older kids or teenagers, New Jersey has plenty of choices.

I’d look at attractions like Night of Terror, Field of Terror, Brighton Asylum, HallowSpire, 13th Hour and Nightmare at Gravity Hill.

Just remember that “my kid loves Halloween” and “my kid wants someone with a chainsaw chasing them through a cornfield” are two VERY different things.

Always check the individual attraction’s age recommendations and warnings before purchasing tickets.

Are There Haunted Houses in NJ for Younger Kids?

Most of the attractions on this list are intentionally scary and are better suited for teens and adults.

However, some New Jersey Halloween attractions offer special daytime or lights-on events.

Brookdale Haunted Theater’s Lights On, Scares Off is a great example. The attraction opens during the day with the lights on and removes the actors, loud noises and jump scares.

If you’re visiting with younger children, look for similar family-friendly daytime events at farms and attractions throughout the state.

Tips for Visiting Haunted Houses in New Jersey

Buy your tickets ahead of time. The biggest NJ haunted houses can get extremely busy on October weekends, and some require timed admission.

September can be your friend. If an attraction opens in September, you may find smaller crowds than you will two weekends before Halloween.

Dress for the attraction. If you’re visiting a farm, corn maze or haunted trail, leave the cute fall boots at home and wear shoes you don’t mind getting dirty.

Check the weather. Many of New Jersey’s best haunts are outdoors and weather can affect operations.

Read the age recommendations. Some of these attractions are INTENSE.

Don’t assume everything is included. Some scream parks charge separately for premium experiences, paintball, escape rooms or Fast Pass-style upgrades.

Make a night of it. If an attraction offers several haunted houses, trails or hayrides, arrive early enough to actually experience everything you’ve paid for.

Which Part of New Jersey Has the Best Haunted Houses?

One of the things I discovered putting this list together is that there really isn’t just one part of New Jersey that owns Halloween.

North Jersey has some incredible indoor haunted houses, including Brighton Asylum and 13th Hour.

Central Jersey is where you’ll find several of the state’s big haunted farms and outdoor attractions.

The Jersey Shore has everything from wooded trails to Brookdale’s unusual Haunted Theater.

And South Jersey has Night of Terror, HallowSpire and Bloodshed Farms.

Basically, wherever you live in New Jersey, there’s probably something waiting in the dark less than an hour away.

Comforting, right?

Best Haunted Houses in NJ for 2026

Whether you’re looking for a terrifying haunted house, a creepy walk through the woods, a haunted hayride or an entire scream park, you don’t have to leave New Jersey to find some incredible Halloween attractions.

Make a night out of it with friends, plan a Halloween date night or bring your bravest teens along and see who actually makes it through without screaming.

I’ll continue updating this guide throughout the 2026 Halloween season as attractions announce new experiences, dates and special events, so save this page and check back before you head out.

And if you’re willing to cross the bridge, don’t miss my guide to the best haunted houses near Philadelphia for even more places to get your scare on this Halloween!
