Create Your Own Faux Flower Garden for the Step2 Happy Home Cottage & Grill
This is a sponsored post in collaboration with Step2. All opinions are my own.
My daughter loves playing outdoors. She would spend all day outside if I let her and usually the first thing she wants to do after breakfast is to head outside and play. Hands on learning and playtime is something I encourage with both of my kids. So I love toys that encourage creative playtime. That’s why I love her Step2 Happy Home Cottage & Grill in pink. It’s perfect for creative playtime with a phone and grill that she can cook at. I even turned the front flower box into a fun “pick and plant” flower garden. While I’d love to plant some fresh flowers in there for her, we are heading into fall and the cooler temperatures have arrived so real flowers are not a great option right now. So I thought, why not make her a faux flower garden. This was she can “pick” and “re-plant” her flowers any time she pleases.
She absolutely loves picking her flowers and carrying them around with her. When she’s done, we just plant them back in the flower box until next time.
I knew she would love this playhouse from Step2 but I wasn’t prepared for just how much fun she would have with it. She plays in it every. single. day.
When it arrived I couldn’t wait to build it for her. It was pink, it had a grill, a little phone and seat inside for her to sit and call her friends. Assembly was really easy and we had it together in about 30 minutes. It probably would have been sooner but she kept running around with pieces we needed or she would sit inside not wanting to move. So we wasted a little time redirecting her to her Step2 Finding Dory water table to play with.
Once it was built, we didn’t get her out of it for the rest of the afternoon. She grabbed the phone and called Lela (her grandmother) to tell her all about her new playhouse. Even big brother can fit in there with her to play. I think my favorite feature might just be the mail slot and working doorbell. It’s so adorable watching her play in her new house.
After we cleared a spot on the deck for the house to sit, I knew I needed to fill her flower box. We picked up some pretty pink silk flowers, a piece of brown felt and a green piece of flower foam (is that even what it’s called?!).
After a little trim, the foam piece fit right into the flower box slot. Then I punched some holes in the brown felt to make it easy for her to re-plant her flowers. I used the brown felt to cover the floral foam so it wasn’t visible. Next we trimmed the flowers from the bunches into single stems. Make sure to remove the wire or trim it and cover any sharp pieces with felt so no little fingers get poked. Once that was done we stuck the flowers into the “dirt”.
The flowers look adorable in the planter and she loves picking her new flowers and planting them when she’s done.

Oh what a sweet little one!
I love that she is having so much fun outside in her playhouse.
We have a playhouse too but I will have to take a closer look to see if we have a space to add a flower garden.
My twin girls would LOVE this playhouse! I love your flower box. So sweet and the perfect touch.
That is just so cute! I’m sure every little girl and even some boys would love it!
