DIY Star Wars Nightlight

From the minute we first introduced my son to Star Wars he’s been obsessed. For the last ten years or so it’s been one of his favorite movies. He’s had everything from Star Wars themed birthdays to countless movie nights. He even has his own Star Wars themed Christmas tree in his Star Wars room. It’s safe to say he’s a pretty big fan. So it’s no surprise he (actually all of us) can’t wait for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story© TM Lucasfilm LTD to release this December. We’re literally counting down the days.

To celebrate the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Kleenex is releasing limited edition boxes featuring designs from the movie. The new boxes are perfect for Jedis big and small. We had a chance to preview the designs before they hit shelves this fall and loved the designs on the boxes so we upcycled them into these DIY night lights for his room.  We love how they turned out and it’s such an easy craft that you can do with your kids.

To make your own DIY Star Wars Night Light you’ll need:

  • Specially designed Kleenex boxes featuring Star Wars designs
  • Battery operated tea lights
  • Push pin or thumbtacks

Once you use the Kleenex tissues, gently cut away the plastic pieces at the top.

Take your pin and punch holes around the box. This is a great activity for the kids (if they’re old enough). I tasked my oldest with this part of the project.

He followed the outline of some of the ships and on other sides he just made holes. Make sure there are plenty of them so the light illuminates through at night.

Insert your battery operated tea-light inside and voila instant nightlight for your Star Wars fan!

We love how they turned out and how easy they were to make. Just like in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, where ordinary people are tasked with doing extraordinary things, we can all do the extraordinary with simple gestures. My son’s friend is a huge Star Wars fan just like he is so he asked if he could make one for his friend. He knew he’d love it just as much as he did.  So we made him one. It’s easy to share Kleenex featuring Rogue One: A Star Wars Story with someone you love to show them you care.

What a totally cool idea. Kids would love making those...and having them in their rooms. Perfect to make at a birthday party.
