South Jersey has a brand-new place for kids to flip, tumble, climb and test their ninja skills! The Dominique Dawes Gymnastics Academy in Mount Laurel, NJ is celebrating its grand opening this weekend. My girls had the chance to get an early look inside and try out the new facility before it officially opens to the public

My girls didn’t just get a tour of the new academy. They were able to get out on the floor and experience it for themselves. They tried the ninja course, vault, floor, balance beam and bars – and loved every minute of it.

The ninja course was an immediate hit. But they had just as much fun moving around the gym and trying the different gymnastics equipment. They balanced on the beam, worked on the bars, tried the vault and got to experience the floor area.

And they did it all with little to no gymnastics experience.

Their coach was amazing. She encouraged them even when they thought they couldn’t do something. She took the time to explain each move, break it down for them and help them complete it. That gave them the confidence they needed to realize they really could do it.

As a mom, I loved watching them move from one thing to the next. They tried new skills, challenged themselves and had fun along the way. But I especially loved the time and compassion their coach showed both of the girls.

The facility itself is beautiful. Everything is bright, clean and brand new, with plenty of space for kids to move around and explore the different areas of the gym.

But what really stood out to me was how much fun the girls had.

We’ve tried plenty of activities over the years, and I can usually tell pretty quickly when something clicks with them. This definitely did.

They left excited about the experience and were already talking about going back.

And with an Olympic gold medalist behind the academy, this isn’t your average neighborhood gymnastics gym.

Dominique Dawes Gymnastics Academy Grand Opening in Mount Laurel

Founded by three-time Olympian and Olympic gold medalist Dominique Dawes, the new Mount Laurel academy brings her approach to gymnastics, movement and confidence-building right here to South Jersey.

Dominique Dawes Academy Mount Laurel Grand Opening

The grand opening takes place THIS Saturday, September 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at East Gate Square.

RSVP HERE

The grand opening is free and open to the public. Families can expect gymnastics and ninja demonstrations, tours of the new facility, activities for kids, giveaways and a chance to meet Dominique Dawes.

If your kids have been asking to try gymnastics, this is a fun opportunity to check out the new facility. It’s also perfect for those kids who climb, jump and turn practically everything into an obstacle course.

The academy is designed to give kids a positive place to move, learn new skills and build confidence. You don’t need to have dreams of becoming an Olympic gymnast to walk through these doors.

Kids can simply come in, have fun and discover what they’re capable of.

And parents, the gymnastics studio is great for kids with different levels of experience! My girls are 12 and 13 with minimal gymnastics experience. So when they say the classes are for different skill levels, they mean it.

Gymnastics Classes for South Jersey Families

One of the biggest benefits of having Dominique Dawes Gymnastics Academy in Mount Laurel is its location.

For families in Burlington County and surrounding South Jersey communities, there’s now another option close to home for gymnastics and an active extracurricular activity.

The core focus isn’t simply training competitive gymnasts, although they can do that, too. It’s about fostering a love of gymnastics and ninja fitness for kids.

Gymnastics can help children develop strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. But I also love the confidence-building side of the sport.

There’s something pretty amazing about watching your child work on a skill they couldn’t do before and then seeing their face when they finally accomplish it.

And kids don’t have to be competitive gymnasts to benefit from that.

A Gymnastics Academy Founded by an Olympic Champion

Of course, having Dominique Dawes’ name attached to the academy makes this opening even more exciting.

Dawes competed in three Olympic Games and was part of the gold medal-winning U.S. women’s gymnastics team at the 1996 Olympics.

For young gymnasts walking into the Mount Laurel academy today, that’s a pretty incredible legacy behind the place where they’re learning their first skills.

But after visiting, I think parents will appreciate that the facility doesn’t feel as though it’s only about creating elite athletes.

Instead, there is an emphasis on giving children a positive experience with movement and gymnastics, regardless of where the sport eventually takes them.

Our Experience at Dominique Dawes Gymnastics Academy Mount Laurel

My girls have tried plenty of activities over the years, so I can usually tell pretty quickly whether something is going to hold their attention.

They couldn’t get enough.

The entire way home, they talked about which part was their favorite, what they loved most and what they can’t wait to do again once classes officially start.

Getting out onto the gym floor and actually trying everything for themselves was such a fun experience. The facility felt welcoming, the equipment was impressive and they left genuinely excited about going back.

That’s exactly what I want from an activity for my girls.

They’re already counting down until the grand opening!

Hope to see you there!
