Disney’s Elena of Avalor Inspired DIY Hair Clips

Elena of Avalor Hair Clip Tutorial

Ever since the show debuted my little one has been enchanted by “Elena of Avalor” or “Nena” as she’s referred to in our house. It’s one of her favorite shows to watch and as soon as she sees Elena on tv, in a store or anywhere she’ll call out Nena and it’s adorable to watch.  When we first heard that the Disney Channel was creating a Latina princess, I eagerly counted down the days until the shows release so we could welcome the newest princess into our home. The show did not disappoint and Elena has quickly become a staple in our house. I love that Elena incorporates the traditions, customs and even foods of Latin and Hispanic cultures. These are all things that Evie sees and hears in our own home everyday or when she visits her Abuela. When Disney sent us a copy of the newest DVD release, “Elena of Avalor: Ready to Rule”, I knew I wanted to create something special for her.

Since she loves the show so much, I wanted to make her and I matching hair clips inspired by Elena. In the episodes, Elena wears a hair clip with beautiful orange flowers on it. While I wasn’t able to find the exact flowers she wears, the ones I found are pretty close.

You’ll need:

  • barrette or hair clips
  • orange flowers and green leaves
  • hot glue gun

For my hair clip I used a barrette and glued the leaf on it. For my daughter’s, I used a clip that I can easily clip right into her hair.

First I removed the flowers from the stem and cut off the green plastic pieces on the back.

Then I removed two leaves, one for each hair clip.

Using my hot glue gun, I glued a large flower on the bottom end of the leaf  and two smaller flowers at the middle and the top.

Once the glue dried, I glued the leaf to the barrettes.

I LOVE how they came out and cannot wait to wear them for tea parties and whenever she’s wants to dress up her favorite princess.

Now when we watch our favorite episodes on DVD, we can dress the part with our matching hair clips. The Elena of Avalor: Ready to Rule DVD is out now and makes a great holiday gift. You could even make these hair clips to go along with the DVD for any Elena of Avalor fan on your shopping list.
