I partnered with CeraVe for this post.
I wish I had someone explain the importance of a good skincare routine and sun protection to me when I was a teenager. Sure I did the basics like making sure I washed my face (almost) every day to get my makeup off. But let’s be honest, there were plenty of times I went to bed with my makeup still in place. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve put much more emphasis on my skincare routine to make sure I’m taking the best care of my skin and protecting it from the harmful rays of the sun. Sun protection is key when you want to shield your skin from the harmful effects of the sun and prevent long-term effects of sun damage like wrinkles and premature aging. These are my 5 essential skin care must haves for anytime I plan to be in the sun
Hydration starts from the inside out so making sure to drink plenty of water is a must. I keep my reusable water bottle with me everywhere I go to make sure I’m hitting my daily water intake. I’ll fill it up in the morning (it’s a big one) and sip on it throughout the day. If I head out to run errands, I drop it in my purse and it comes along with me.
A QUALITY SUNSCREEN
This is a biggie. I can’t stress enough how important sunscreen is and not just for days at the beach. In fact, applying sunscreen has become part of my beauty routine every single day. We hear about how important sun care is during the summer months, but the truth is sun care is critical year-round. That’s why you won’t find me without my CeraVe Hydrating Sunscreen.
This 100% mineral sunscreen provides both protection and hydration making it a great choice for daily use. CeraVe Hydrating Sunscreen is a 100% mineral sunscreen that offers broad spectrum protection, plus is formulated with ceramides to lock in moisture.
There are two types of sunscreen filters: mineral and chemical. Mineral and chemical sunscreens work in different ways. Chemical sunscreens protect the skin by absorbing into the skin whereas mineral filters stay on the surface of the skin forming a barrier to reflect UV rays away from the skin.
CeraVe Hydrating Sunscreen offers Broad Spectrum Protection. UVA and UVB rays both come through clouds and UVA rays also can come through windows. So it’s important to apply a broad spectrum sunscreen daily.
CeraVe Hydrating Sunscreen’s active and sun-deflecting minerals, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, can leave a white cast, due to the mineral formula sitting on the surface of the skin. It’s recommended that one tsp is used on your face and an ounce on your body. To apply, dot the product onto your skin and rub in well.
The 100% mineral formula spreads easily leaving a lightweight, non- greasy feel. It should be applied liberally every 2 hours for proper protection.
CeraVe Hydrating Sunscreen is oil free, fragrance free, paraben free and is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin and has been allergy tested. It has even earned the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance and is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation.
PROTECT YOUR LIPS
Being outside in the sun whether you’re at the beach or just the park you need to protect your lips too. You’ve got your skin covered with CeraVe but an SPF Lip Balm is also a must. Even on days where I don’t wear lipstick, I’ll make sure to put this on.
MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE
In addition to sun protection, keeping your skin hydrated is extremely important. I make sure to use a hydrating moisturizer, like CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion, morning and night to keep me skin moisturized at all times.
FASHIONABLE SUN HAT
Whenever I plan a beach day or day out in the sun, I won’t leave home without a hat. I love that these hats have become so popular lately. You can pretty much go into any store and find some cute ones that are really affordable and do a great job of protecting your skin from harmful rays from the sun.
