My daughter is obsessed with all things Frozen. She has an Anna dress that she must wear several days a week and we’ve seen Frozen more times than I can count.
She’s literally been counting down the days until we could add Frozen 2 to our home movie collection and now that the time is almost here, she couldn’t be more excited.
When I asked her what kind of special treat she wanted for our movie night, she immediately said cupcakes. Cupcakes are her favorite.
No ordinary cupcake would do. I wanted to make a special cupcake that was just as magical as the movie and the journey Anna and Elsa find themselves on.
One character that Evie was enamored with was the Water Nokk. This mythical guardian that Elsa meets in Frozen 2 was the inspiration behind these Frozen 2 cupcakes.
Inside each cupcake there is a hidden blue horse shaped to represent the Water Nokk.
HOW TO MAKE FROZEN 2 CUPCAKES WITH A HIDDEN WATER NOKK INSIDE
To surprise your kids or guests at your Frozen 2 party, you’ll need a few things. You’ll need:
- Blue food coloring (I used Wilton Delphinium Blue)
- jumbo cupcake pan
- jumbo cupcake liners
- cake pan
- 2 boxes of white cake mix
- eggs
- oil
- butter
- vanilla
- Frozen 2 cupcake toppers
Mix one box of the white cake according to package directions. Add a few drops of the Wilton Delphinium Blue coloring to the cake mix until the desired shade of blue is achieved.
Pour cake batter into a 9×13 cake pan and bake according to box directions (this may vary depending on the cake mix brand you use).
Once baked, remove from oven and let cool. Use a small horse head cookie cutter to cut the Water Nokk shapes from the cooled cake. (Note: If they’re lightly brown on top, gently peel or cut the brown off.)
Mix together the second box of white cake mix.
Line cupcake pan with cupcake liners and add a little batter to each.
Gently place the blue horse shape into the center of each cupcake liner.
Pour remaining white cake batter into each cupcake liner covering the blue piece.
Bake according to box directions.
Once done, remove and let cool.
Add some blue food coloring to homemade or store bought frosting until desired blue color is achieved.
Fill piping bag with large tip and icing cupcakes.
Add sprinkles and some Frozen 2 cupcake toppers
Then let your guests enjoy the magical Water Nokk surprise when they enjoy their Frozen 2 cupcakes!
