5 Reasons the Holiday Inn Express Nags Head Oceanfront is the Perfect Hotel in The Outer Banks.
Growing up we didn’t travel. Except for the occasional trip to the beach my mom took us on, there was no other traveling going on in my house. I didn’t start traveling until I was in my early twenties and when I had my son the itch to travel became almost too much to ignore. I’m also one to never turn down a good road trip. In fact, I try to plan at least one road trip a month, especially while the weather is nice. So when the opportunity to visit The Outer Banks in North Carolina came along, I jumped at the opportunity. To say we had the time of our lives would be an understatement. It was one of our most magical trips and our stay at the Holiday Inn Express Nags Head Oceanfront played a tremendous part in that.
It was one of those trips was low-key and relaxed but magical at the same time.
When it comes to traveling, I want to expose my kids to the world. I don’t want them to grow up without these experiences. I want them to experience new places and things as much as we can, while we can. Because one day, before I know it, they’ll be grown and on their own starting their own families.
I want to savor each and every minute with them while they’re still young and they look at the world wide eyed.
That’s exactly what we experienced in OBX. While there’s no shortage of places to stay in this tourist town, the Holiday Inn Nags Head Oceanfront hotel was the perfect location for our family.
The hotel was literally steps away from ocean and had stunning views from of the ocean right from our room and balcony.
Every morning and anytime we were in the room, I found E just daydreaming staring at the ocean. I think that was one of the best parts of the Holiday Inn Express Nags Head Oceanfront – the sweeping views of the beach.
It’s on the smaller side for a hotel which made it all the more charming and it’s prime location on 4 acres of oceanfront property made it one of the best places to stay.
The entire trip had such a laid back vibe and it’s one of the first trips I’ve come home from and truly felt relaxed. Usually trips are go, go, go but this one was different.
We did so much but it truly felt like time slowed down while we were there. Maybe it was the early morning walks on the beach.
Or the late nights under the stars searching for ghost crabs.
I let the kids bury me in the sand (something this girl does not like).
Whatever it was, I savored each and every moment. I felt more present than I have in a long. long, time.
CENTRAL LOCATION
Located in Nags Head, the hotel felt right in the middle of all the action. Food, attractions and stores were all nearby. Some within walking distance or a short bike ride away.
LARGE ROOMS
Our room was large enough where the 4 of us didn’t feel cooped up. The room had queen beds with the most comfortable mattress and pillows I’ve ever slept on. Seriously I’m ready to give my bedroom a makeover with this mattress and those pillows.
There’s a large closet to store luggage and beach stuff along with a fridge, plenty of cabinets and a dorm size fridge/freezer combo.
The bathroom has a nice large vanity and a oversized stand up shower (no tub).
There’s a large desk if you’re like me and need to get a little work done while you’re there.
A comfy chair placed right in front of the large window to enjoy those oceans views.
And last but not least and balcony to enjoy the salty sea air.
FREE BREAKFAST
A stay at the Holiday Inn Express Nag Head Oceanfront includes free breakfast for the entire family, Now I know what you’re thinking, but let me be the first to say the breakfast was amazing! The last thing I want to d while I’m on vacation is cook so I always budget money for meals but it’s always so much better when the hotel offers a free breakfast and it’s as good as this one was.
There were some of the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever had. The breakfast included things like:
- Scrambled eggs
- Egg white omelet with veggies
- Biscuits and gravy
- Cereals
- Oatmeal
- Yogurt
- Assorted muffins and pastries
- Cinnamon rolls (that were absolutely delicious) Ask for a to-go box and take one back to your room for later! You won’t regret it.
- Juices and coffee
BEACHFRONT
Being just steps away from the beach has it’s perks. We woke up looking at the beach. We went to sleep listening to the sound of the waves. In under five minutes we were sitting on the beach every day of our trip. Besides playing in the waves, we collected shells just about every day of our trip (anyone have any great ideas for shell projects? Send them my way).
We spent our nights ghost crab hunting. The crabs on the beach here like to come out at night so we headed down with flashlights in tow to find these cute little creatures.
They bury right in the sand in these holes and will run as soon as they see you. A few of the little guys were nice enough to stop for some photos before they ran on their merry way.
The beach is perfect for sure fishing as well. Both of my guys had a blast fishing on the beach while E and I played in the sand or water. We did visit before the huge summer crowds arrived so I would image it would be a little harder to fish here in peak summer travel times unless you hit the beach early in the morning or late in the day once the beach crowds cleared out.
If you’re planning a trip in the not-so-busy seasons, you’ll find plenty of spots to fish.
PLENTY OF AMENITIES
There’s an indoor pool for early morning or late night swims, a fitness center and a deck outside behind the building that overlooks the beach. It’s perfect to catch a sunrise or star gaze at night.
Overall we had a wonderful stay and can’t wait to go back. The Holiday Inn Express Nags Head Oceanfront is perfect for everyone from couples to families who want to experience Nags Head and everything OBX has to offer.
The memories we made on this trip were priceless and the kids are already asking to go back. They’re missing those beautiful ocean views and I couldn’t agree with them more.
The Holiday Inn Express Nags Head Oceanfront has everything a family could want in a hotel.
