If you’re like me and you love the idea of sleeping surrounded by nature but traditional camping just isn’t your thing, then let me introduce to to Huttopia in Sanford, Maine. Huttopia is a French-style camping destination in beautiful Southern Maine. With so many things to do it’s the perfect place to unwind and just enjoy the outdoors.
WHAT IS HUTTOPIA?
Huttopia is a French-style camping experience designed to bring you closer to nature. Each location is nestled deep inside forests and on the shores of lakes and ponds giving you unlimited access to the best of what Mother Nature has to offer.
Huttopia outdoor camps offer you a glamping experience that even someone who doesn’t like camping will love.
Each location has a variety of tent-style accommodations that include:
TRAPPEUR TENT:
The Trappeur tent offers exceptional space for families along with comforts like electricity, real beds and mattresses, a kitchen, bathroom and heat in a beautiful natural environment. That’s right, I there is your own personal bathroom!
THE CANADIENNE:
The Canadienne was inspired by the lifestyle of trappers in far Northern Canada who relied on sturdy tents with plenty of living space to brave the outdoors in comfort. Plus it’s roomy – it can sleep 5!
THE VISTA:
We designed and created our Vista tiny houses to provide comfort and a connection to the outdoors in one unforgettable glamping experience.
THE CHALET:
Large families will love our chalets and everything they have to offer, from quality hardwood construction to full bathrooms and equipped kitchens for the perfect balance of comfort and convenience in the great outdoors.
For couples looking for something a little more personal, you can stay in either The Trappeur Duo or The Bonaventure.

WHEN DOES HUTTOPIA IN SANFORD, MAINE OPEN?
Huttopia in Southern Maine opens for the season in May and typically closes for the year in October. For the 2022 season the campground officially opens on May 12, 2022 and closes October 16, 2022.
WHERE IS HUTTOPIA LOCATED IN MAINE?
Huttopia is located in Southern Maine in a town called Sanford. Sanford is located in York County and is known for it’s many wooded areas and lakes which attracts nature lovers and campers to the area.
WHAT IS THERE TO DO AT HUTTOPIA IN SANFORD, MAINE?
The campground is full of activities to keep you busy and relaxed during your stay. There really is no reason to leave the campground. From pools to hammocks, fishing to canoes, if you’re craving nature and relaxation, Huttopia is for you.
SWIMMING AT HUTTOPIA
There are two ways to cool off in the water at Huttopia, Maine. First you’ll find a heated pool up by the main lodge. The pool is the perfect way to cool off after a day of hiking and exploring.
If the pool is too crowded, head on down to the lake sized sand pool. The beach is perfect for kids to play and make sand castles. Older kids and adults will love the fishing at the pond.
You can even rent a canoe, kayak or paddle board and spend the day relaxing on the water. If you own your own, make sure your bring it along and skip the rental fee.
OTHER ACTIVITIES AT HUTTOPIA, MAINE
During the high season, you’ll find plenty of things to do (some fee based) throughout the season. Everything from yoga in the park to guided nature walks will keep you busy.
When you check in, be sure to look over the calendar for a complete list of things to do. You’ll find things like:
- Nightly campfires

- stargazing
- kids club
- games and sports
- s’mores night
and so much more.
DINING AT HUTTOPIA
Whether you book a Tiny House, Trappeaur, Canadienne each French-style campsite comes equipped with your own grill and campfire ring for s’mores. The Vista Tiny House even has a kitchen perfect for cooking meals indoors if needed.
On the nights you don’t feel like cooking, you can head on over to the Central Lodge for a visit to the bistro and bar. Here you’ll find a wide array of dining options for even your pickiest eater.
Start your day with freshly brewed coffee or smoothie with fresh fruit. Delicious sweet and savory crepes are on the menu every day.
For a more filling meal, the pizzas are amazing. Or you can go with a fresh salad, sandwich or bagel.
THINGS TO DO IN SANFORD, MAINE?
If you find yourself looking to leave the campgrounds you’re in luck. There are some fun things to do right in the town of Sanford.
