Since today is National Ice Cream Day, I’m sharing an easy and fun project – ice cream in a bag. With a few simple ingredients, you can have homemade ice cream in a matter of minutes.
Here are the ingredients you will need:
- Milk
- Sugar
- Vanilla
- Salt (I used Kosher salt but regular table salt will work fine)
- Gallon size zipper bags
- Sandwich size zipper bags
- Ice
- Toppings – feel free to get creative and use whatever toppings you like
Step 1: Add 1/2 cup of milk to the sandwich zipper bag.
Step 2: Add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla & 1 tablespoon of sugar to the milk. Seal the bag.
Step 3: Add ice to the gallon bag.
Step 4: Add a generous amount of salt to the ice.
Step 5: Place the sandwich bag with the ice cream mixture into the bag of ice. Seal and shake for about 5 minutes. After a few minutes, stop shaking and feel the milk. You’ll be able feel it thickening. If it’s not quite done, shake for a few more minutes.
After you’re done shaking, it should look like this:
Step 6: Enjoy your ice cream!
We also made a few other flavors this time. We added Nestle Quick powder to the milk mixture to make chocolate and strawberry.
Once it’s done freezing, you can add your toppings and enjoy!
