I’m not big on resolutions. In the past, I’ve never stuck to them. I start out with great intentions and then after a few days or weeks life catches up and everything just falls apart. So this year I decided to focus on better habits in my work life, my home life and in all aspects of my life. Instead of making a bunch of resolutions that I wouldn’t fulfill, I instead choose my word of the year – focus. Since there are so many more things I want to focus on here on this blog, I want to focus on making better choices when it comes to eating and I want to focus on the little moments with my kids, I thought it was the perfect word for me this year.
As some of you may know, I’m in my second year of homeschooling my oldest. It was a decision I did not make lightly but it has ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve made. It has its own set of challenges but if I had to do it all over again, I would and sooner. So with homeschooling, this blog and an active two year old in the mix, life at home needs a little more focus. So this year, that’s what I’m doing, focusing on what’s important in my life and improving where I can as I go along.
Another one of those areas that needs a little focus is breakfast. I don’t like to eat when I first get up. In fact, it’s usually a few hours before I’m ready to eat by then I’ve already fed the kids and we’re into our morning lesson or work for the day. So I end up grabbing something not-so-healthy like cookies or a pastry to eat.
So for the last week or so, I’ve started my day with a fresh fruit smoothie. I change the variety up every so often but one my favorite recipes is my Kiwi Berry Smoothie.
I pack plenty of fresh fruit and veggies, well just one vegetable – spinach – but there’s plenty of it in there. I’ve not only found myself not hungry for the junk later in the morning but now that I’m actually eating something in the morning, I’m able to better focus on my day.
Sometimes I’ll pair it with some egg whites if I make the kids eggs. Other mornings it’s delicious all on its own with a little fruit salad.
There’s plenty of delicious kiwi, blueberries, strawberries and fresh pineapple mixed with a little flax seed and delicious orange juice.

Kiwi Berry Smoothie Recipe
Start your day refreshed with this delicious Kiwi Berry Smoothie
- 1 cup of blueberries
- 1 cup of strawberries sliced
- 1 cup of pineapple chopped
- 1/2 of a kiwi chopped
- 1/2 cup of blackberries
- 1 tbsp. Flax Seed (optional)
- 1 cup of orange juice
- 1 cup of fresh baby spinach
- Add all ingredients into a blender and puree for 1-2 minutes.
- Add ice if you would like and mix until ice is chopped.
- Serve immediately
