Moms Can’t Get Sick on Vacation – But What Happens When We Do

Self-care has been a priority of mine this year. Granted we’re only in February but I’ve been making it a habit to set more time for me. Time to relax. Time to unwind. Time to take care of me so I don’t get sick. But what happens if I do get sick? That’s always something I worry about when I’m home but even more when I travel. For the last eight days I’ve been on vacation and we even headed out on a cruise for a few days. I was worried about getting sick even before I left for our trip and I’ve been so vigilant about going out, washing my hands and  doing anything and everything to avoid getting sick before our trip with this nasty flu going around. Then BAM! A few days into our trip, I feel like I’m getting sick.

Now I know what you’re thinking just go to the doctor or take some medicine and tough it out.. Well sometimes that’s easier said than done. While we were in Disney we didn’t have a car for me to get to an urgent care and truthfully I was worried I was coming down with the flu.

I just had a runny nose, cough and some congestion but to be sure, I set up an appointment with Amwell so I could get checked out by a doctor before we left for the cruise portion of our trip.

Amwell is a busy mom’s dream come true. I made an appointment with a medical doctor right from my laptop and you can use it anywhere on the go from your phone, tablet or laptop making it easier than ever to see a board- certified doctor no matter where you are.

Within minutes, I signed in and was talking with a doctor. She asked me about my symptoms, if I was taking medications and after about 10 minutes she put my mind at ease with any flu concerns and diagnosed me with a common cold. Thankfully I packed plenty of over-the-counter medicines in my travel first aid kit so within a few days I was as good as new and I could get back to focusing on the fun during our trip.

It was nice to know if I needed it, I could have had an antibiotic or other medicines called right in to my pharmacy.

Having access to Amwell truly has changed the way I look at healthcare. Now I no longer worry if the kids get sick when we travel and I don’t have access to a doctor. For minor concerns, I can just schedule a visit through Amwell.

You can SAVE 25% an urgent care visit with code MOM29. The code is good until 12/31/18.

So you might be wondering what is Amwell? I never heard of them.

Well, Amwell is the nation’s largest telehealth company, connecting users with board-certified, licensed doctors for immediate and live, online visits—day or night, on either mobile or desktop. Some general conditions our doctors encounter include: minor illnesses and injuries, general health and wellness concerns, prescription refills, and chronic condition management.  We employ primary care and specialist physicians, as well as licensed behavioral therapists and registered dietitians, to meet our patients’ health and wellness needs. Amwell doctors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are dedicated to keeping you healthy  — all from the comfort of your home.

Talk about a lifesaver for me. I met with a doctor in just a few minutes. She asked me some questions about how I felt and what my symptoms were and she confirmed what I thought. She was able to call in a prescription for me and even offered to give me a doctor’s note if I needed to miss work or for anything I might beed.

I have to tell you, having this option for not only me but the kids too, is life changing. Literally LIFE CHANGING. Now I can meet with a doctor in the middle of the night, while on vacation or just without leaving my house.

I know I’m not the only parent out there struggling to keep up with everyday life and all the twists and turns it throws at us. So it’s nice to have an option like this if I can’t get in to the doctor’s office.

I had such a wonderful experience I’ve already told just about everyone I know. Now I’m telling y’all. Plus you can SAVE 25% an urgent care visit with code MOM29. The code is good until 12/31/18.
