Before I became a stay-at-home/work-from-home mom I had about a 35 minute drive to work each day. Even now I still spend a lot of time in my car and with two kids who are with me most of the time, there are some essentials I must have in any car I’m in. When I stopped working I drastically cut back on the mileage I put on my car. I had my weekly errands and things like that but most of that was done in my town and not miles away. I quickly went from putting over 15,000 miles a year on my car to under 4,000. I purchased my new truck last February after my car was totaled and in the last year, I’ve only driven 3,800 miles. Even though my mileage has drastically decreased my car insurance premiums have not. That’s why I’m so excited to partner with Metromile for this post! Read on to learn all about the only pay-per-mile auto insurance available in New Jersey and how you can win a $100 gift card and Metromile swag pack!
When I first heard about Metromile I was instantly intrigued and couldn’t wait to learn more. Even though I didn’t drive that much in my car, we have a few other cars that we do drive. My husband’s truck is our daily driver. Plus he has two sports cars that he only drives during the summer months.
So we are always on-the-go with one car or another. Now that the weather is starting to get warmer, we’re busy making plans to enjoy these gorgeous days but if you have kids, like I do, you know how important it is to be prepared for anything!
These are a few of my must-haves for our car for
Emergency Kit – I have a small tote in the trunk of my car filled with essentials like jumper cables and other things we might need in an emergency. You can buy one already made or assemble one yourself like I did.
Mini Trash Can – With two kids, I want to make sure I keep my new car looking new and my kids can be a tad messy. I picked up a small trash can for the back seat for any trash we may accumulate on a road trip or a trip to Target.
Seat Covers – My truck has leather seats and to make sure they stay looking great. I picked up some inexpensive seat covers to protect them from any messes the kids may make.
Changing Kit – With an 11 year old and a baby, having an extra set of clothes for both of them is a non-brainer. You never know when you’ll need it and it’s always better to be prepared. Last summer we stopped by my sisters for a quick visit to drop something off on our way out to dinner and my son and nephews started a water balloon fight in under five minutes! I was so glad I had a change of clothes for him in the trunk because he was soaked! And we were only there to drop something off!
Car Insurance – Obviously this is a no-brainer but sometimes people don’t realize how important it is to have quality car insurance especially when it can be so expensive. That’s why I’m so excited about Metromile. With a cap of 150 miles a day, Metromile is great for a trip to the store or even a long road trip!
Let me tell you a little more about Metromile and some of the things I love about it.
How does it work?
Metromile uses Metromile Pulse to measure mileage. The Pulse plugs into the standard OBII port and uses data from the car to track mileage and car data like location, engine health and driving stats.
Turn your car into a smart car with the free app to show you:
- Trips & trends – including miles, MPG, time, and speed
- Fuel level and cost estimates
- Car location – (they’ve helped recover stolen cars) **This is one of my favorite features!**
- Street sweeping alerts – currently only in San Fransico, San Diego, Los Angeles & Chicago
- Diagnoses of car’s health condition
- Contact a mechanic
Who is Metromile?
Metromile is the new insurance company that has revolutionized the auto insurance scene. Their unique pay-per-mile model allows drives to pay for the miles they drive, without judgment of driving style or behavior.
Metromile is designed for those who drive less than 10,000 miles a year. They are the first agent in the to offer this option in United States. This per-mile insurance saves the average customer nearly $500 a year. I know I wouldn’t mind saving $500 a year! Since I drove under 4,000 miles last year on my truck and less than a 1,000 on my husband’s Camaro, this is something worth looking into for our family.
The company was founded in 2011 is currently available in 7 states:
- New Jersey
