Natural Flea & Tick Preventions for Pets
Don’t head outdoors this summer with your pets without protecting them from fleas and ticks. Here are some natural flea and tick prevention ideas.
Having indoor only cats, I never really worried about them bringing in ticks or fleas. Now that I’m a dog mom, with 2 very active German Shepherds who love to be outside. Fleas and ticks are a real concern as are the viruses they transmit. Now that the warm weather is here, I researched the best natural ways to repel fleas and ticks on your dogs and found one product every pet owner should have, Tickless Natural Flea and Tick Repellant.
PLANT AN HERB GARDEN TO HELP DETER PESTS OUTSIDE
You’ve probably heard of plants to have around that will repel mosquitoes but did you know you can plant herbs to help repel fleas and ticks.
Planting some of these herbs can keep these pests out of your home and yard and away from your pets. Plus there’s the added benefit of having fresh herbs around all summer long.
At the end of season, just dry them to use in recipes throughout the winter. It’s win-win.
Here is a list of plants that fleas and ticks hate:
- Rosemary
- Catnip
- Sage
- Thyme
- Lemon Balm
- Holy Basil
- Rose
- Sunflower
- Marigold
- Pansies
There are a host of other that will repel these bugs but they’re toxic to both dogs and cats. So I left them off my list. Always research the plant before you plant to make sure it’s safe or check with your vet.
Even if you’re lacking space for a full garden, a lot of these herbs do great in containers.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR WASH FOR DOGS
When my dogs get messy in the yard or it’s time for their baths and I’m worried about fleas and ticks, I used an apple cider vinegar wash on them.
It’s easy to make and may help repel fleas and ticks. Just mix one part apple cider vinegar, one part water and soap. Soap them up.
It’s safe and can’t hurt to try if you find fleas or ticks on your dog.
TICKLESS
But what about those times you’re away from home? You can’t bring a natural tick repellant like an herb garden with you. After spending hours on the internet trying to find the best ways to keep fleas and ticks away from my dogs, and in turn away from us, I found Tickless Ultrasonic Flea and Tick Repellant.
Tickless Flea and Tick Repellant is a small device that can clip to you shoes or your pet’s collar keeping bugs at bay.
HOW DOES TICKLESS WORK:
Each Tickless device emits a series of ultrasonic pulses that we can’t see or hear but interferes with the ability of ticks and fleas to orient themselves.
So they stay away from you.
