As Summer begins to wind down, everywhere I look I see reminders of the school year that slowly creeping up on us. I can’t step foot in a store without seeing books, backpacks, pens and pencils around every corner. While we’re busy squeezing every ounce of fun out of this summer, I’m also busy staying one step ahead of the school year. I’m determined to stay ahead and on top of things this year. I’m still juggling having a toddler and a teenager in the house and managing their schedules as well as my work can get a little out of hand. So to help me stay on track this year, I picked up a few things to help me stay organized including a new planner and BIC® Gel-ocity® Quick Dry gel pens.
I love to write and I have since I was in school. Book reports, essays, you name it. If it involved writing, I loved it. Except for one thing: I’m left handed so anytime I’d write, my papers would smear and my hand looked like it was attacked by blue ink. After class, I’d run to the bathroom to wash the ink off. That’s been my story of being a left-handed person. So I know the frustration my tween feels when he is writing or drawing and it smears. It’s honestly something my entire family deals with. We’re all lefties. Naturally, when I find pens that don’t smudge or smear on my hand when I write, I like to shout it from the roof-tops to share with all my lefties. If you’re left handed or just plain don’t like your drawings or writing to smear you’re going to love BIC® Gel-ocity® Quick Dry gel pens.
4 Ways to Keep Your Family Organized This School Year
SET UP A COMMAND STATION
Whether it’s in your home office, a spot in your kitchen or on a hall table. Set up a little command center to keep your planner, folders, and pens nearby and in one spot. When important paperwork comes home sort it immediately, write down dates and you’re one step ahead of avoiding the dreaded paperwork clutter.
Being a lefty, it’s important that I write with pens that won’t smear. There’s nothing worse than messing up a pretty new planner with smudged writing because it didn’t dry before my hand moved across it. I like to use an assortment of colors. I assign each family member a color that way when I look at my planner quickly I can see certain events at a glance. Plus it’s pretty to look at.
FIND A PLANNER THAT WORKS FOR YOU
Every year I treat myself to a new, pretty planner. One that is big enough for all my needs but one that still fits in my purse. It’s on the larger size but lucky for me my purses are big too. I use a different color pen for each family member – blue for my hubby, green for Ryan, pink for Evie and purple for me. With a busy family, it’s a quick way for me to differentiate what I have going on any given day.
FOLDERS FOR PAPERWORK & HANDOUTS
Pick up a few folders or a hanging file system where you can file away papers as they come in. When important paperwork comes home, immediately sort it into folders, write down any important dates and toss anything that doesn’t need a second look. Use the colorful BIC® Gel-city® Quick Dry gel pens to organize the folders. I find it easier if I handle it on a daily basis rather than letting things accumulate throughout the week.
Don’t forget to celebrate International Left Handers Day this Sunday, August 13th. Surprise your left handed friend (or treat yourself) to some BIC® Gel-city® Quick Dry gel pens. They’re a lefty’s best friend!
