Lately my days have been busy. My toddler is at that stage where I’m chasing her around all. day. long. Then there’s my tween who has me at my wits end on some days. Then add into that my hectic work schedule, the never ending list of things to do around the house and I’ll just say that this momma is exhausted. Finding more time for me proves challenging but it’s a work in progress. Now more than ever I need to make sure I’m getting a good night’s sleep and not laying in beg with my mind racing with my never ending to-do list. So I’ve started incorporating these 5 activites each night to help me unwind and get a good night’s sleep.
Without a restful night’s sleep I’m definitaly not functioning my best. I wake up ever more tired than the night before and my day is just thown off. I don’t like that feeling.
SET A NIGHTTIME SCHEDULE
This one was definitely harder than it sounds. While I always had good intentions when it came to bed times, we always seemed to go over or the kids just weren’t ready for bed. Now, I am stricter with bed times. I set their bed times and enforce them so I can have some quiet time for myself.
TURN OFF ELECTRONICS
After the kids go to bed, I may stay up a bit and finish up some work but I’ve even set a time limit on that. My biggsest downfall was getting on my phone and laying in bed surfing the internet or catching up on Facebook. That’s not the best way to unwind at night so now, I’ve put limits on that. After a certain time, I leave my phone downstairs so I’m not tempted to get on it.
TRY A MELATONIN SUPPLEMENT
A friend actually introduced me to the idea of taking a melatonin supplement nad I was intrigued. So I started taking Nature Made® Melatonin Adult Gummies before bed each night. They are a great-tasting and easy way to help support sleep.† Nature Made® Melatonin Adult Gummies are a gummy you can trust. You can pick up a bottle of Nature Made® Melatonin Adult Gummies on the vitamin aisle in your local Walmart.
ENJOY SOME QUIET TIME
Grab a book or your favorite magazine. Maybe catch up on your journaling or start a journal. Find something that helps you relax and incorporate it for at least a few minutes every night.
TAKE A RELAXING BATH
With more time for me at night, I can actually enjoy a relaxing bath with interruptions every five minutes. I love taking a bath with a nice, fragrant bath bomb to relax but honestly they get a little pricey after awhile so I started to make my own. They are SO easy to make and even make for a great gift for friends and family.
I made mine lavender scented, since lavendar helps me relax but you can totally get creative here and make them any scent you’d like.
You’ll need a few things before you get started:
- Bath Bomb Mold
- 1 cup of baking soda
- 1/2 cup of citric acid
- 10-15 drops of lavender essential oils
- purple food coloring
- large bowl for mixing
In a large bowl mix the citric acid and baking soda until clumps are removed and it’s combined.
Add in the essential oil and mix well.
Add about 5-6 drops of food coloring and mix well.
Add in water, one teaspoon at a time until the mixure reaches the consistency of damp sand. You want it to clump in your hand and hold it’s shape a bit.
Pack the mixture into each side of the ball mold.
Put the two halves togethers and press down.
Gently remove one side of the plastic mold.
Then hold the other side in your hand and remove other side of mold.
Place on a plate to dry overnight.
When you’re ready to use, drop one in your warm bath and gently swish it around the tub.
When I made them for the first time, I was surprised at how easy they were. Now I make them all the time and keep the jar right in my bathroom for whenever I’m ready for a relaxing bath before bed.
What are some of your favorite ways to relax at night?
