Great news for everyone waiting for the newest nighttime show at Animal Kingdom. As of today, Rivers of Light is officially open. If you’ve been following along during the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, you probably have seen some of the photos and videos from the show during the conference. On day two of the event, we were treated to a preview of the new show and it is spectacular. Rivers of Light is definitely a must do on your next trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
I almost hate to say it but Animal Kingdom has been my least favorite park for the last few years. It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just simply because it closed earlier than the other parks and we’ve already seen and done most of the things there several times. In our previous trips, we would schedule about a half a day at Animal Kingdom then use our park hoppers to visit somewhere else. As my son got older, we just stopped visiting this park all together.
In fact, our visit to Animal Kingdom on this trip was the first time we’ve been there in years. Let me be the first to admit, I was blown away by the changes! And they’re just getting started. I wish I scheduled more time for us at the park. With all new shows and more attractions coming later this year (ahem Pandora), the changes to Animal Kingdom will leave you breathless.
Today, though I’m talking all about the nighttime spectacular that is the Rivers of Light. The show will be available on select nights and officially opens today. We were treated to an advance showing while at #DisneySMMC and the entire family loved the show. Even my little one, who I didn’t think would sit through it, loved it. She was absolutely mesmerized.
You’ll be swept away in an amazing show that celebrates the beauty of all living things. The combinations of water, sound and light is like nothing you’ve ever seen. In fact, it’s a show that needs to be watched over and over to fully immerse yourself. I know I already can’t wait to see it again.
The show runs on select nights and lasts approximately 15 minutes. Be sure to grab a times guide on your way into Animal Kingdom for the most up-to-date information. There is also a dining experience and premium seating package available for the show that you may book prior to your arrival. Bookings opened back on February 9th so if you’re looking to book this on your next trip, don’t delay. FastPass+ will also be offered for the show.
DISNEY FACT: Pay close attention to the water projections, you’ll see some of the footage from Disney Nature Films.
ABOUT THE SHOW FROM DISNEY:
“Get swept away in a timeless show that celebrates the beauty of all living things. With a brilliant fusion of water, sound and light, it’s quite unlike anything you’ve experienced before!
As sunlight fades and the stars begin their twinkle, remember that we are all bound together by earth and spirit—past, present and future. Listen as the Discovery River responds to the whispers of the world, cradling creatures with a symphony that swells with wild murmurs and shimmering secrets of the universe.
So begins a new light—a vibrant awakening of flitting fireflies leading to a ceremonious procession across the water.
Before your eyes, clusters of lantern light shift and shape into stunning animal spirit forms—the Tiger, Turtle, Elephant and Owl. Spellbound, you’re transported across Asian jungles and tropical oceans to African savannahs and North American mountains.
This magnetic display culminates in a triumphant blend of song, light, color and earthly elements—a grand finale so divine that you can’t help but feel a sense of peace and oneness with nature.”

A special thank you to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. We were invited to attend the event with a conference fee. We received discounted and complimentary items from Walt Disney World and the Disney Cruise Line as well as their sponsors during our trip. While we were not required to write about our experiences, I wanted to share with you these amazing memories. All opinions are my own.
