Traveling with kids requires a little bit of patience and a whole lot of preparation. My toddler loves our road trips. She actually looks forward to going and will happily grab her toy bag and get in the car. Then after about 15 minutes it all goes down hill and pretty rapidly at that. Thankfully I’ve learned a few tricks to keep her happy and entertained for most of the trip or at least until she falls asleep. Here are a few road trip must haves for your toddlers. These things are not only great for the road portion of your trip but they’re great to have in the hotel too!
MAKE A BUSY BAG
Find a special bag or small backpack for your toddler just for road trips. Evie has one that is specifically for our trips. She knows when we grab it, it’s time to fill it with some of her favorite toys (whatever they are at the moment), a picture book or two, even a coloring book. The bag stays on our coat rack and she only uses it on road trips. Most of the time it keeps her busy just stuffing and unstuffing the bag in the car. But hey, whatever works.
When the busy bag novelty wears off, we have a portable DVD player. We bring this along for longer road trips with some of her favorite shows or movies. We also bring along her iPad with some of her favorite learning apps for fun on the go. This way she doesn’t get too bored on the way there.
PACK A CHANGE OF CLOTHES
I bring along a change of clothes in the diaper bcag or inside the car with us. Toddlers are messy and spills and leaks happen so it’s easier to have a change of clothes handy than to pull out the suitcases to dig for a new outfit.
POTTY MUST HAVES
We’re about to begin potty training over here (wish us luck) but until then I make sure I bring along plenty of diapers and wipes. When she’s finally potty trained, that’ll switch to pull-ups and a portable potty. I want to avoid accidents in the car whenever I can and with a newly potty trained toddler, waiting for a rest stop just might not happen.
SNACKS, SNACKS AND MORE SNACKS
If you’re toddler is anything like mine, she wants to eat all the things lol! I bring a lunch box especially for her filled with snacks she’ll enjoy along with water bottles, juice boxes and one of her favorite snacks right now – TEDDY SOFT BAKED Filled Snacks. Then I back another bag full of these same snacks for the hotel room and for our adventures during the trip.
These TEDDY SOFT BAKED Filled Snacks are cute, loveable bear-shaped snacks that are made with quality ingredients such as milk, eggs and chocolate. They have no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial flavors and no artificial colors.
I love how portable they are. Each individually wrapped TEDDY SOFT BAKED Filled Snack is the perfect size to drop in my purse, diaper bag or backpack so she has a snack to enjoy throughout the day.
You can find TEDDY SOFT BAKED Filled Snacks at Walmart in the Cookie/Cracker aisle.
They’re available in two flavors and Evie loves the chocolate cake with vanilla filling. She makes sure to request them when I’m packing her snack bag and she asks for her chocolate bears even at snacktime now. They’re that yummy!
