If you follow me on Facebook, then you probably saw the excitement yesterday when I shared the trailer for ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY. It’s no secret we’re huge Star Wars fans (my son’s bedroom is Star Wars central and he even has a Star Wars Christmas tree every year in his room) so we’re pretty excited for December 16th to roll around. This time around I’m drawn to the theme. Rogue One is the first in a series of stand-alone Star Wars films.
Unlike the saga films which follow the linear story of the SKYWALKER family, stand-alone films can take place any time on the Star Wars timeline. This allows the filmmakers the opportunity to explore the universe and experiment with different styles and genres.
What I love most about Rogue One is that it is so different and unique from any other Star Wars film in its style and perspective. Sure it has the massive battles, but it is also very personal story told through the eyes of five ordinary people who come together to do extraordinary things.
With a strong and diverse international cast including Felicity Jones (UK), Diego Luna (Mexico), Ben Mendelsohn (Australia), Alan Tudyk (U.S), Mads Mikkelsen (Denmark) Forest Whitaker (U.S.), Riz Ahmed (UK/Pakistan), Jiang Wen (China), Donnie Yen (China/Hong Kong), this is sure to one movie you don’t want to miss this year.
ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are producing, with John Knoll and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers.
ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY arrives in theaters everywhere on December 16th!
