Create Special Memories at the Shawnee Inn This Winter

Sometimes a little weekend getaway is just what you need to unwind and recharge.  It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life that every once in awhile a relaxing getaway is just what the entire family needs. Last weekend we spent a much needed weekend away at the Shawnee Inn in the Pocono Mountains. The Inn, located right on the Delaware River, is only 90 miles from Philadelphia and 75 miles from New York City making it an ideal location for a weekend getaway. This was our first time to the Shawnee Inn and as soon as we pulled into the parking lot, we were impressed with the beautiful grounds, even in the middle of Winter. I can only imagine how beautiful it must look in the Springtime when the trees start to bloom.

There is so much to do right at the inn and I loved the fact that we could do as little or as much as we wanted without feeling pressure to do it all. Here were our favorite things to do and we think you’ll like them too.

Each day in the lobby, you’ll find an activity board with the day’s activities. Most meet right in the lobby or out front of the inn. You can do as much or as little as you’d like.

TAKE A HISTORIC HAYRIDE

While we were waiting for our room to be ready, we headed outside to explore the grounds. Evie spotted the playground on our walk back from the river so naturally we headed there so the kids could burn off some steam. While we were there, we noticed a hayride coming back to the resort. Once everyone had a chance to get off, we headed over to see what it was about. spent some

ENJOY A CAMPFIRE AND S’MORES

Join fellow guests on the front lawn overlooking the Delaware River for a campfire and s’mores. If you ask me, I don’t think there is a more perfect way to end a fun day than with delicious s’mores

TAKE A NATURE HIKE ONSITE & OFF

There are daily nature hikes that depart from the lobby at specific times during the day. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgable about the area and the different waterfalls and trails. He even gave us ideas for other fun places to explore once our hike was over. Since the weather was on the warmer side, the kids loved being about to spent a lot of time outdoors.

ENJOY A CRAFT BREWERY TOUR

My husband is the beer drinker in the family. I’m not much of a beer gal but I’m all for fun tours so we made sure to check this one out. We met in the lobby of the inn and took the short walk over to ShawneeCraft Brewery which is located right behind the hotel. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and gave us a a great tour of the brewery and the process that goes into making their craft beer. There are even samples for the adults to enjoy. The tour concluded back in the brewery bar area where you could sample other beers and wines. We really enjoyed this tour and getting a behind the scenes look into the process. Kids are welcome on the tour.  On certain nights there are fun trivia/open mic nights too.

TAKE AN EVENING WALK 

The property is gorgeous and there is so much to explore right on the hotel grounds. I love that they have guided tours around the property. The guides share so many entertaining and informative facts about the area that I found myself wanted to learn more and more.

Let’s not forget about Shawnee Mountain for skiing and snow tubing. While we didn’t get a chance to get over there to check it out, it’s definitely on our list to check out next time we visit.

Winter is the perfect time to take a little getaway to the Shawnee Inn and we are so glad we did. We loved learning the history of the inn, exploring nature and just relaxing together as a family. We cannot wait to go back and visit Shawnee Inn especially when the weather is warmer. My guys are already asking to go fishing here in the Springtime.
