Every so often a trip or experience comes along that changes how you view the world. For me, that came last year when we took a cruise to Alaska. That trip changed my life in so many ways. You see, that was a bucket list trip for me. Getting to see glaciers, flying on a seaplane and seeing humpback whales up close like we did was a dream come true. It also made more aware of our environment. Learning about some of the endangered species we saw on that trip inspired me to make changes to my life and we consume plastic. So this Earth Day, I wanted to show you some simple changes to cut back on your plastic consumption and there’s even a giveaway for you too!
When we got home, I started taking a hard look at the amount of plastic we use and throw away on a daily basis. From water bottles to plastic straws, it was a lot and didn’t have to be.
Did you know 91% of plastic isn’t recycled?
It’s not! According to National Geographic, 91% of plastic isn’t recycled and ends up making it’s way to the ocean. I’m sure you’ve seen the images floating around the internet and it’s not pretty.
I knew I wanted to do my part to change what my family contributed to that. I immediately changed how I shopped. I switched out our plastic baggies for sandwiches and snacks to reusable snack bags.
I bought reusable straws for our smoothies and drinks for the kids. I even take them with us to restaurants when we go out now.
I started actually carrying my reusable shopping bags with me to the grocery store. I have a nice collection of them but they’re under my sink. Most times, I’d forget them when I went to the store and ended up just using plastic bags.
But not anymore. Now, I keep them right in my trunk so I don’t forget them and I always have them on hand.
Next, I had to look at our plastic water bottle consumption. We went through A LOT of plastic water bottles. I mean, I was buying several cases a week!
Now we all have just one bottle that we refill throughout the day and use over and over again.
No more plastic bottles that are only used just one time.
It’s worked out even better than I thought. The kids love drinking the Primo Water for not only the taste but they can easily use it themselves anytime they want a drink! They’re even drinking less juice because of it.
I love that I don’t have worry about potential contaminants like lead, PFAS, arsenic, mercury and chlorine that are sometimes present in tap water.
Primo water goes through a multi step purification process which includes reverse osmosis to eliminate any potential harmful contaminants.
Every Primo bottle is used 40-50 times (sanitized between each use) before it’s made into a new bottle which means that 1 Primo bottle saves 1100 single-use bottles from inevitably making it to the landfill or ugh, the pacific garbage patch.
Primo water is available in either refill (fill it yourself) or exchange (pre filled bottles) at tens of thousands of retail stores across the country and in Canada. Primo water tastes great and YOU will feel great drinking more water.
Did you know that families with water dispensers at home drink up to 25% MORE water! That has great health benefits for the whole family!
Now I want to help YOU cut back on the amount of plastic water bottles your family consumes! I’m giving away a Primo Water Dispenser just like the one here. PLUS the first two (2) 5-gallon bottles of Primo water!
