Spooky Snake Breadsticks Recipe

Add a creepy touch to your dinner table with these easy to make Snake Shaped Breadsticks. They’re perfect to pair with chilis, soups and other creepy, crawly meal ideas.

Spooky Snake Breadsticks

Halloween is such a fun time to play with your food. Whether you’re making spooky pizza our these snake breadsticks, it’s the perfect time of year to create some fun recipes that bring out the screams this Halloween.

These breadstick shaped snakes are so easy to make from either pizza dough baked in the oven or a can of breadstick dough baked right in the air fryer.

I was on a time crunch when I made these so I went with the latter, but either way would be simple enough. The air fryer just cooked a little quicker for my hectic schedule.

There are two ways you can make these fun snake breadsticks, either formed by hand like I did here, or wrapped around wooden skewers or a greased chopstick.

Truth be told, I did it both ways. In the air fryer I liked how these came out better. If I was making them in the oven, I’d probably make them both ways.

SEASONINGS TO ADD TO YOUR SNAKE BREADSTICKS

If you want to add a little more flavor to these breadsticks, try adding some of these herbs and spices:

  • poppy seeds
  • black sesame seeds
  • red pepper flakes
  • garlic powder
  • Italian seasoning
  • parmesan cheese

  • snake breadsticks with black spoons

WHAT TO SERVE BREADSTICK SNAKES WITH

While I think they make a great appetizer by themselves, you can serve them with things like

  • Your favorite marinara sauce
  • Pumpkin Chili
  • Halloween pizzas

HOW TO MAKE SPOOKY SNAKE SHAPED BREADSTICKS IN THE AIR FRYER

First, you’ll want to cut the crescent dough into long strips. Make sure they’re a long rope of even thickness so they cook evenly.

Then shape them into a loose coil, snake-like shape.

Add on the eyes and snake tongue to the snake’s head. I used black peppercorn for the eyes and small pieces of orange or red bell pepper added to the snakes head for the tongue. You could also use black olives for the eyes if you wanted.

Then pop in your air fryer and cook for 4-6 minutes at 390 degrees. If they’re not done add them back in for another minute or two at a time.

Once they’re done baking, transfer them to a wire rack on your kitchen counter.

If you want to try these in the oven, make your snake breadsticks the same way then arrange them on the cookie sheet or on parchment paper-lined baking sheets. Make sure to leave enough room for the snakes to cook evenly.
