When I was younger, weekends during the summer meant cookouts with family and friends. It didn’t matter what else was going on, it always seemed like there was a party somewhere. Whether it was at our house or my aunt or uncle’s house, we always had something to do. I’m carrying on that same tradition with my family and just about every weekend, we try to cookout with friends and family. I wanted to up my drink game for our next cookout so I made these Strawberry Wine Slushie for us to enjoy.
My husband’s family was the same way. Growing up in a latino household, you always knew there was something to do. In fact, growing up he lived around the corner from me, although we wouldn’t meet each other until adulthood. Now that I’m an adult it seems like life has gotten more hectic and busier but one thing is for sure, I want to continue to create those same memories today. So I make it a point to invite family and friends over as much as I can. In fact, I pretty much have an open door policy.
So it’s safe to say I do a lot of entertaining. To me there’s nothing better than spending time with your family creating memories. A typical summer afternoon involves the guys gathered around the grill cooking, kids in the pool swimming and the ladies under an umbrella with a bottle of wine chatting away.
For my next picnic, I wanted to spice things up a bit. Since the weather is only getting warmer with each passing weekend, I know something cold and refreshing is the way to go. So I took one of our favorite wines and turned it into a delicious wine slushie.
With just a bottle of Sutter Home Sweet Red Wine, lemonade and some fresh strawberries, I have something guaranteed to cool us off. I can’t wait for next weekend to share it with everyone.
Just combine everything in a blender until smooth and freeze in an ice cube tray.
Once frozen and you’re ready to make your wine slushie, remove wine cubes and add to blender with ice and a dash of lemonade. Blend into smoothie form, pour in a glass and enjoy.
The great thing about this recipe is you can make it ahead of time, fresh it into cubes and keep them frozen in the freezer until you’re ready to use them.
Keeping a bag in the freezer is a great way to enjoy a different taste of your favorite wine. Maybe you had an unusually difficult day at work and need a cool way to unwind. On days like that you can just reach in your freezer for a delicious way to enjoy a glass of wine.
Strawberry Wine Slushie
- 1 bottle of Sutter Home Sweet Red Wine
- 2 cups of strawberries
- 1 cup of lemonade
- Puree strawberries in a blender until smooth. I don’t like chunks so I make sure it’s nice and smooth.
- Add wine and lemonade and blend until combined
- Freeze in ice cube trays until frozen.
- Once frozen add a few cubes to blender to make slush. If you want a more slushy drink add some ice cubes in.
With so many different varieties, Sutter Home offers something for everyone. Just like with this drink recipe. Sutter Home Wines make everyday occasions all that more special. They have a 65 year history of making award-winning California wines that are not only delicious but affordable.
