5 Winter Getaways in the Northeast Worth the Trip

What does your Winter Travel Bucket list look like?  For me, it would be hopping on a plane and traveling somewhere warm. My kids on the other hand, they love the snow and if I’m being completely honest, I don’t mind it that much either. Winter travel doesn’t have to be somewhere warm to be fun. In fact, these 5 Winter Getaways in the Northeast are the perfect spots to create family memories that will last a lifetime.

Depending on where you are coming from, these destinations may only be a short car or plane ride away and winter is the best time of year ot visit them.

THE POCONO MOUNTAINS, PA

There’s no shortage of things to do in the Pocono Mountains this time of year. Camelback Lodge in the Pocono Mountains is a wonderful place to escape to in the winter. They’re one of the only snowtubing parks that allow kids as tall as 33″ to snowtube! This was where we took my daughter for her first snowtubing experience. She was able to ride in a double tube with my husband or I and we had such an amazing time.

They even have Galactic Snowtubing – which is basically snowtubing at night with music and lights and it’s so much fun!

Not only is snowtubing a must-do, but there’s also Aquatopia, an indoor waterpark located right at the lodge. After a day out in the cold sliding down the mountains, you can relax and play in the always 84 degree waterpark.

HERSHEY, PA

While Hersheypark may be closed for the winter, there’s still so much to do in Hershey, PA. Hershey’s Chocolate World, ZooAmerica and Hershey Gardens are all open year round.

Plan a chocolate filled weekend at The Hershey Lodge with and a trip to see all the animals that call ZooAmerica home. If you have the urge to do a little shopping, the Tanger Outlets are nearby.

Head back to The Hershey Lodge for some delicious food and Water Works, the indoor water park right inside the hotel.

LAKE PLACID, NY

The Adironacks are known for their beauty all year round but winter is an especially gorgeous time of year.

NEW YORK CITY, NY

There’s nothing more exciting than the hustle and bustle of New York City. While it’s great to visit while the weather is warmer, there’s still so much in the city to explore during the winter months.

Plan a trip to go ice skating at Rockefeller Center, catch a Broadway show and then head to Times Square for an action-packed weekend.

PHILADELPHIA, PA

Philadelphia is a city crawling with history and fun activities for the whole family. Attractions like The Philadelphia Zoo and Eastern State Penitentiary will keep kids of all ages entertained.

Museums like the Please Touch Museum, The Academy of Natural Sciences and the Franklin Institute are not only fun but educational as well. Through February, you can even go ice skating at Dilworth Park.

Wherever you decide to go this winter, these family friendly destinations in the Northeast should be at the top f your list.

We have enough snow in Iowa that we never think of heading northeast during the winter. Maybe during the summer or fall!
