Winters are long here in New Jersey so while the weather is warm, we look for every reason to spend time outdoors. When the weather is warm there’s no reason to be cooped up inside the house. Even for watching movies. Our new favorite thing to do is have a backyard movie night. With the simple tips you can plan an epic backyard movie night of your own!
Take your fete outside and go as big or as casual as you want! I love any reason to throw a party even if it’s just the kids and I so I knew I wanted to make this a fun night and one that we could repeat all summer long.
With a little effort, a simple movie night turns into a celebration that they’re still talk about weeks later.
Naturally, I had to be a little extra and make this a backyard movie night they wouldn’t forget.
I enlisted the help of my Cricut Joy for this project and created this DIY Movie Marquee Board and individual s’mores kits for us all!
With some simple snacks, a nice night and my crafty Cricut helper, our regular movie night was one the kids can’t stop talking about.
Here are some tips to help you plan an epic backyard movie night of your own.
COMFORTABLE SEATING
Seating can be as simple as using stuff you already have. A comfy picnic blanket. Some plastic Adirondack chairs or cushions like I used.
Our neighbor had his roof redone and they had some extra pallets that I knew would be perfect for a table so we could dine al fresco.
I placed a blanket underneath, added a few cushions and pillow and boom an easy outdoor dining table.
DELICIOUS SNACKS
No movie night is complete without snacks. Of course I had plenty of popcorn on hand but I made these cute little individual picnic boxes with meats and cheese, some crackers and grapes.
I picked stuff I knew everyone liked to eat and assembled them like this so we could graze on them throughout the movie.
I even added some fresh blueberry muffins from our local bakery for a sweet dessert.
FUN PROPS
I made with Marquee movie sign with my Cricut that I knew would be perfect for all our outdoor movie nights.
I personalized the sign with “movie night” in white vinyl and left the bottom blank so we could write in every new movie we watch in chalk.
I literally designed this DIY movie marquee sign in minutes right from my phone. I just opened up the Cricut Design Space App, picked a font I liked and cut it out on my Cricut Joy. So easy.
I absolutely love this personalized sign and can’t wait to use it again next week for our next movie night.
HOW TO MAKE A DIY MOVIE MARQUEE SIGN
You can easily create your own sign with just a few things. You’ll need:
- Cricut Joy Cutting Machine
- Wooden Sign – I found my at a local craft store but if you’re handy, you could probably build one.
- Cricut Smart Vinyl in White
- Cricut Transfer Tape
- Cricut Transfer Tape
Open the Cricut Design Space App on your computer or your phone and pick your favorite font.
Type out the word Movie Night or any other fun saying.
Cut the design and weed it.
Apply Transfer tape on top of the weeded design.
Apply to the board.
Gently remove transfer tape.
Super easy and such a cute piece for your party!
S’MORES
And since no outdoor summer party is compete without s’mores, I made everyone a s’mores kit with the cutest graphic and made on my, you guessed it, Cricut Joy.
Seriously, if you don’t own a Cricut Joy yet, you’re missing out. This little powerhouse let’s me craft from anywhere whenever I want.
It’s portable so I can bring it with me everywhere I go and craft on the road.
I whipped up these “Let’s Make S’Mores” stickers for the top of each box. I mean how cute are these?!
I’m obsessed with how this turned out and this is going to be my go-to way of handling s’mores from now on. No fighting over the chocolate or marshmallows.
Everyone has their own little kit to make as many or as little as they want.
These individual s’mores kits would be perfect party favors for just about any kind of celebration all thanks to
my Cricut Joy!
