How to spend 72 Hours in Wildwood Crest, NJ: The Ultimate Weekend Guide

If you’re looking for the perfect combination of sun, surf, and small-town charm, Wildwood Crest, New Jersey should be on your radar. Nestled just south of Wildwood and north of Cape May, this peaceful beach town is ideal for families, couples, or solo travelers looking to recharge. Whether you’re planning a weekend trip or a short vacation, here’s exactly how to spend 72 hours in Wildwood Crest – where to eat, what to do, and where to stay.

Day 1: Arrival + Beachfront Bliss

Where to Stay

For your base, I highly recommend choosing a beachfront hotel or motel with easy access to the water and the Wildwood Boardwalk. Top-rated options include:

  • ICONA Diamond Beach – A luxurious beachfront resort with modern amenities and private beach access.

  • The Pan American – Perfect for families, offering large rooms and panoramic views. You can read about our stay at The Pan American HERE

  • The Madison Resort – A retro-chic budget-friendly option steps from the sand. Bonus for the FREE beach chair and umbrella set up. You can read all about our stay at the Madison Resort HERE

Where to Eat – Dinner

Start your stay with a relaxing seaside dinner.

  • The Doo Wop Coffee Shop – Casual diner-style fare with outdoor seating.

  • Coastal Blue at ICONA – Upscale seafood and coastal cuisine with beautiful ocean views.

  • Duffinetti’s – A cozy Italian restaurant with fresh pasta and seafood options and an amazing chicken parm

Evening Activity

Take a peaceful walk or bike ride along the Wildwood Crest Bike Path, a well-maintained path that runs parallel to the beach. If you’re visiting during summer, you might catch a free outdoor movie or concert at Centennial Park. You can even take a short ride over to Cape May for more dining options and things to do.  A stay at The Madison Resort includes a free shuttle over to Cape May.

Day 2: Exploring, Adventure, and the Famous Boardwalk

Breakfast

Kick off your day with breakfast at:

  • Olympic Flame Restaurant – A classic diner with hearty breakfast options.

  • Britton’s Gourmet Bakery – Famous for their melt-in-your-mouth donuts and cinnamon buns.

BEACH DAY

Spend the morning exploring what makes Wildwood famous their FREE beaches! In addition to the beaches here being free, they’re wide, and less crowded than neighboring towns. Perfect for sunbathing, swimming, or beach games.

Be sure to bring sunblock, umbrellas and chairs unless your staying at a resort like The Madison, where they have free beach chair and umbrella set ups.

Pro Tip: Go early to beat the crowds and enjoy the ocean breeze and when the iced coffee cart rolls around, treat yourself to a Dirty Banana Iced Coffee (you’ll thank me later)

Lunch

Grab lunch at one of the boardwalk staples:

  • Mack’s Pizza – A Wildwood tradition for over 60 years. Thin crust and addictive.

  • Curley’s Fries – Another must-try snack. Don’t skip the vinegar drizzle.

  • Madison Rose – If you’re still on the beach and a guest at The Madison, you can have your lunch delivered to you RIGHT ON THE BEACH! Learn more HERE

Afternoon FUN

It’s not a trip to Wildwood without a trip to the boardwalk and a visit to Morey’s Piers.

  • Wildwood Boardwalk – Just minutes from Wildwood Crest, this 2-mile-long boardwalk is packed with shops, arcades, eateries, and amusement piers like Morey’s Piers

  • Rent a Surrey Bike – Ride along the boardwalk or Crest bike path in one of these quirky multi-person bikes.

Dinner Options

Treat yourself to a nice dinner after your adventure-filled day:

  • The Grand Hotel’s Hemingway’s Restaurant – A short drive into Cape May for fine dining.

  • Salty Mermaid Bar & Grille – Trendy seafood with great cocktails.  While we didn’t get any seafood, everything we DID eat was amazing and I’d definitely go back. Here is a video on Instagram of some of the things we enjoyed:

Sunset Idea

Head to Sunset Lake for some of the best sunset views in the Crest. Bring a blanket and watch the sky explode in color over the bay.

Day 3: Nature, Shopping & Local Gems

Breakfast

  • Sand Castle Restaurant – Popular for their eggs benedict and fresh coffee.

  • Vinyl by Madison – Oceanfront breakfast with a solid menu and friendly service.

Morning Adventure

  • Kayaking or Paddleboarding – Rent from places like Harbor Light Marina or SUP Cape May and explore the calm bay waters.

  • Visit Cape May National Wildlife Refuge – Take a nature walk and enjoy birdwatching in this protected area.

  • Visit The Cape May Zoo – If you’re traveling with kids, a trip to the zoo is a must do. Admission to the zoo and parking are both FREE. But they do accept donations. Your donations are what help keep the admission FREE so I highly recommend donating what you can during your visit.

Shopping & Local Stops

Before heading home, stop by:

  • Downtown Wildwood Farmers Market (Saturday mornings) – Fresh produce, handmade goods, and live music.

  • Doo Wop Experience Museum – Learn about the unique 1950s architecture that defines Wildwood.

Grab Lunch Before You Go

Enjoy one last meal before you head back home:.

  • Duffinetti’s – Offers convenient lunch options and family-friendly vibes. We ate here for dinner and I highly recommend. Everything on the menu was delectable and their Chicken Parm is out of this world.

  • Vinyl by Madison – Savor  the essence of casual coastal cuisine in a relaxed and welcoming environment

Final Tips for a Great 72 Hours in Wildwood Crest

  • Parking: Many hotels offer free parking, but boardwalk areas may require metered spots—carry coins or use parking apps.

  • When to Visit: Late May to early September offers the best beach weather, but June and September are quieter and still warm.

  • Family Friendly: Wildwood Crest is quieter than Wildwood, making it ideal for families or those seeking peace over party.

Wrapping Up

A 72-hour escape to Wildwood Crest offers a perfect mix of relaxation, adventure, and small-town coastal charm. Whether you’re sipping coffee by the shore, catching thrills on the boardwalk, or soaking up golden sunsets over the bay, this seaside gem promises a weekend to remember.

So pack your sunscreen, bring your flip-flops, and prepare to eat well, play hard, and rest easy in Wildwood Crest.  Need help planning your trip to Wildwood Crest, feel free to reach out!
