Moana Cupcake Recipe

We’ve had a Moana movie marathon going on in our house since last week. When we arrived home from the Poconos we had a package on our doorstep and both kids rushed to grab it. They knew it was a movie and were thrilled to see Moana in there! They’ve been begging to see this since we missed it when it was in theaters. I thought Evie might be too little to sit through an entire movie when it was release so this was one we were waiting for on DVD. Well that day is finally here! While we may have had a sneak peek last week, you can own it on Blu-ray today! It’s quickly become a family favorite and we’re watched it at least 5 times already! Since it was a little chilly this weekend, we hung out at home and had our own little Moana movie night. Since no movie night is complete without a delicious treat, so I made these Moana inspired cupcakes and I just love how they came out!

They were easy to whip up and are great for a Moana movie night, Moana birthday party or just because!

Now that Moana is available on Blu-ray it’s definitely one that you’ll want to pick up for your movie collection. Not only is it an instant classic, but it’s one you’ll want to watch over and over again. With a Digital HD copy, you can take your movie watching on the go. My kids loved being able to watch Moana in the car while we’re out and about.

So are you ready to make some Moana inspired cupcakes? Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 Box Vanilla cake mix
  • 1 can crushed pineapple
  • 1 tub of vanilla icing or this homemade vanilla icing recipe
  • Blue food coloring
  • graham crackers (crushed)
  • small seashell candy mold
  • white chocolate candy wafers
  • chocolate candy wafers

If you have a favorite homemade recipe for the cake and icing feel free to substitute and use that but I’m not at all opposed to using a box mix especially when I’m short on time. In place of the water the recipes usually call for, I added one can of crushed pineapple to give the cupcakes a light, pineapple taste and they are oh so good! You’ll need to tint your icing blue and once it’s piped onto the cupcakes, dip half of the cupcake into the crushed graham crackers to give it the look of sand.

To make the candy shells, I melted both the white chocolate wafers and the chocolate wafers. Using a small spoon added a little of each to the mold, then I used a toothpick to swirl the flavors together to give them a marbled look. Once the chocolate is hardened, just place on to the shells onto the cupcake.
